![]() Another Noob in Noobville Port Atlantis Mall Changes Ownership A couple of days ago it became official, Eps gave up the mall and sold it to a member of Fat Rats, 'Darth Skippie Boobie.' "The market for shops here in Port Atlantis is very undervalued," Skippie claims while decorating his penthouse apartment with what looks to be a huge Port Atlantis sign made out of Christmas garland. "I think everyone who was wise enough to invest in Atlantis while Eps was in charge will feel very rewarded. With some marketing and some time committed everyone who has a shop here will be very happy to own in Atlantis." "I see the mall as much like a land area. Great shopowners work as DNA does for LA's, and the marketing money in and out of game - as fertilization cost. I think it's pretty natural with this approach and that the mall will be just as successful as well-promoted land areas," says Skippie. A land area was in fact what he was looking to buy originally. However, receiving a PM with the question "I see you're looking to buy a land area -would you consider buying a mall?" made him jump on the offer. "I always wanted to buy a mall," he said "but never figured one would be for sale." Funded with the money from his ingame uber Hall of Fame and profits, selling some gear, and borrowing money from friends and investors, Skippie bought the Atlantis Mall for a sum he just comments on as being "alot," but quickly adds that he thinks that it's a good investment. "Whether you abhor Atlantis, or fondly remember your noob days here, everyone has the ability to get to Port Atlantis and the mall. Unfortunately the city itself has a perception problem. It certainly is a frustrating place sometimes, but people forget that the mall is actually its own server" Skippie explains while people are dancing in the background. "When you get bored where do you go? Most seem to choose Twin, it has a ring and the boxes, and alot of activity. But it seems to me alot of people are starting to gravitate back to Atlantis. You see several ubers around Atlantis these days. The shops here are really starting to come up to par with what is offered in Twin. I'm happy to say that both Auktuma and NZR recently opened shops here, so the mall is improving by leaps and bounds on a daily basis." The Atlantis Mall has already gotten a new tagline: 'Not just for noobs anymore,' and Skippie points out that this is not intended to be rude against new players at all. "In Fat Rats we are always calling each other noobs. Nubas this, nubas that. It's more of a term of endearment. I think the events and promotions we will do for the mall will empower that exact use of the word." Skippie stops to think a while. He talks fast and passionate, and his sentences flow naturally like someone who has a true sense for marketing. As he continues in his enthusiasm, he states that "Nobody is ever really not a noob. I learn something new every day. I bet even Skalman does too." As I look over at Skalman dancing in the corner of the penthouse apartment dressed in orange pants without a shirt, it appears the dresscode is clearly the standard issue clothing. Even MindArk's visiting Guide 03 Simon was inspired to strip down to his orange. "I'm happy to be a noob owner of a noob mall in noobville. Bring on the noobs I say!" as Skippie winks. Skippe has large plans for how to promote his new heart project. Ideas are practically springing out of the 34-year old man. 'Sunday, Bloody Sunday' is one of them, where the mall is PvP-enabled for some indoors PvP fun. The idea would attract both trigger-happy ubers, and noobs who would like to see them in action, Skippie thinks. Unfortunately, it seems that while PvP is enabled in the area, the mall itself is in fact considered a 'safe zone,' which he hopes MindArk will change back shortly. "My main goal is to reposition Atlantis somewhat," Skippie says while he stops a second to think, "and have a nice time." ![]() Port Atlantis Mall Discussion here |

first, it sounds great skippie, gratz. I think some new blood in the management of Atlantis Mall is very welcome, no offense to the previous owner intended.
And a small off-topic remark, which was actually why i wanted to make this post: Has it become politically correct for non-Noobs to use the N-word? Even if they refer to themselves..as for example in the rap-song from "i'm a bad-ass nuba"? Are we going to see "stop snitching!" signs in the port atlantis mall now as well? |

when i sit on the 4th floor balcony and look down on sweat camp. i think of the way that the peasants rise up with the power given them by their own sweat gathering. it's much like standing on arakis and watching the spice farmers battle to steal profit from worms.
short answer yes, i think the noobs are due a little stonewall or civil rights movement in the economy and function of the game. atlantis is already vibrant to look take in. while billy's was an encampment and phoenix a pure workers town. twin seemed like a fun wild west trade town and still is and will always most likely be that. but atlantis may show what type of city we can expect bustling with commerce and pure broadband that speaks to the future of factories and a true port. the mall is prime waterfront property in game. i say bring the fishing. |
