The MMO Gamer digs into Entropia (updated):

“The MMO Gamer has tough questions for Entropia, but mostly doesn’t get answers. A prime topic of discussion is their recently announced deal to expand into China. Among the tidbits:

595,000 registered accounts
110,000,000 PEDs were deposited last year (10 PED to the dollar, so $11m [corrected math!])
No mention of how much was withdrawn
And of course, this response to the censorship question:


The MMO Gamer: When western companies expand into China, there are worries about censorship. Will Entropia Universe be filtered and censored according to Chinese policies? Stories of giants such as Google and Yahoo filtering web searches of keywords such as democracy or falun gong comes to mind.

Marco Behrmann: There have been no such demands from CRD.
(as of yet, i'd imagine. i hope they don't start making demands. but then again, what happened to the borrum? earl)

The MMO Gamer: Will CRD have the ability to impose such restrictions? Will Chinese players in Entropia Universe be able to express opinions without fear of their private information such as IP address being forwarded to Chinese government agencies?

i fear this as well. i can't believe for a moment that they will NOT assert their wishes to control the media content available in this new entropia. i am biased for sure, but i just really wonder what the game plan is. anywhere but fricking china

I just see this new expansion as being a whole new side to the game... What will happen if we try to visit those worlds? Will we be sensored too? Will there be an ingame policing system that the CRD will control? How will MA's policy and the new policy work for support and violations of both EULA's... I hope this is all already thought out, but i have some worries like you say

I honestly don't see us getting onto the chinese planets. Look at all the other stuff they do to keep china cut-off from an open internet. Do you think they are going to let a bunch of capitalists, agitants, and perverts(well..."us") have free access to their people? Why do you think it is a planet, and not a continent? Why not just make it easy and let the chinese into PE proper? You think they want those foul-mouthed OJ's they we disdain overrunning their planets? Hell no. You want chinese admins with backdoors into YOUR items? (their servers, their admins, your avatar, your items).

In my opinion, the chinese have simply contracted MA to make a version of PE they can run. That is all. MA likes to tease and spin. MA should be careful. China executes officials for bribes and failures.

Look how long it has taken to get vehicles and factories...and that fricking egg! I can't sit on the floor of my apartment without falling through, but they have time to make a goddamn ship!
