What happens if you don't pay rent?

This should POSSIBLY go in the n00b corner, but I felt it would be more appropriate here. I was just wondering what happens when you see that someone did not pay the rent on their estate. Do they lose the property instantly? I assume that usually means the person does not play the game anymore. I am speaking specifically about the PA Mall Penthouse. I liked to go out on the balcony thing and look around at the city, but now even that is unaccessible because the terminal says the owner did not pay rent. So does Mind Ark resell it in the auction or something?

Generally speaking nothing happens. When you need to access the estate you go and pay it at the terminal and voila, you are back in A lot of people use the apts as long term storage, so no need to go there all the time.

everything inside stays safe until you pay your rent. you do not get evicted or any thing like that.

You pay rent to get access to your apt. When you pay teh rent you can get in for the next 30 days. When those 30 days expire then you cannot get in again until you pay more rent. For example:
You buy your apt on Jan 1st.
You pay your first rent (10 PED) on March 1st - you can then access your apt until 30 march.
You pay 10 PED again on April 15th, you can then access your apt until May 15th.
You never have to pay rent in arrears.

Personally I think this is a shame as it leads to many apts not being accessible and to people hoarding apts. I would prefer the rent to be half that but have to be paid every month, but I don't really see how that could be made to work.

It is a good idea...

MA SHOULD implement eviction after 90 days... that's what happens in the real world... so should happen in game too... unused property would go back in to auction under Marcus Callander's name with starting bid of zero or 1... Would let a lot more people have a chance at owning things at a descent price. It would also force those that do buy in to actually pay attention to their investments instead of wasting MA's time and slowing the economy and causing markups to go through the roof.

I remember the old days, 2 or so years ago when there was like rarely under 50 pages of auctions under the estates section. It should be like that again.

that's a truly terrible idea me thinks, if MA did that, 90% of folks who dont play all the time but have been around for years and may go back into it more seriously in the future when they have the time(like say me) would quit, you can't force folks to be active, however you can make use of the money they funneled into the economy when they are, trying to blatantly steal it like that would undermine the whole game forever for them, and they'd never pay a cent to eu again, and mindark would be fools to do anything to jeopardise theyre future patronage as given the number of apartments with unpaid rent out there most players are currently in said category, you pay money to access it you have however BOUGHT the property its not a rental, and you haven't bought a lease, the rent is really upkeep, which you only need when its in use

Very bad idea, as if someone wants to take a break for some month he would have to pay rent without using anything.
Its ok how it is, and nothing needs to be changed !!!!

Well, I'd agree if I was renting my apartment. But actually I paid someone nearly 1000 PED for the estate deed and as such I consider that I own it, as much as you can own anything in this virtual world. And personally, if I owned a house in real-life I would be rather disappointed if I got evicted from it somehow after 90 days for, say, not paying my council tax.

As my apartment in EU is on CND, if I'm not regularly on CND for a spell of time it is convenient for me to leave it unpaid. If I need to use it I'll pay my tax, if I don't need to use it then I do not care if the local authorities empty my dustbins or light my street, so why would I pay the tax?
