Oil Rig Event

This was the scene at approximately 19:00 MA time. About 150 colonists gathered at Port Atlantis Mall on 7/28/07 to participate in the wormhole event that was supposed to take place at 19:00 MA time. The Wormhole Event was something to take Newbies down to the oil rig. Two lines were formed and then after about 30 minutes, we were told to start heading out to Swamp Camp. At Swamp Camp, we waited for another half-hour, and then the first Wormhole was opened. Many people were complaining and a handful of others were trying to calm everyone down. Luckily, I missed the first three wormholes and was able to see what was happening after the first couple of wormholes came and went. I caught the fourth one, by pure luck. As I teleported away from the horrible lag, I wondered what awaited the Newbies at the Rig that was attacked by Bots only a few mere days ago. When I arrived at the PVP, I ran around, taking in my surroundings and going over to the rig. Right in front of me an oil barrel appears and just as soon disappears. I take a look at the chat window and see that “star” seemed to be killing an awful lot of people with a DOA Foeripper, and he was killing the person standing to the left of me, then I was dead and back at an outpost. Thank you “star” whoever you are, for killing me and almost everyone else. Thank you also to Alice in Wonderland, Whitestar and whoever else coordinated this event. You gave me a very awesome experience, even if it was stripped away from me in a matter of minutes.

i waited for 2 hours to get through and got milled in about 2 seconds. as soon as the white light went away, my avatar was seeing the white light himself i revived at the outpost and people were heading back to twin. i felt gutted, and thought how stupid of me not to start running as soon as i went through the wormhole.

I then decided to run back to the rig, and met 2 others running there aswell. i tagged along with them, then 1 went down all of a sudden, then the other, i could not see the shooter, i started running left to right, then bang. i went down.

i was back at the outpost again and decided to head back to twin with the group that was leaving. it was a good day, but i wish i could have seen it a bit longer than 2 seconds. i didnt even get to move from where i went through the teleporter. i now plan to run there some time when i hope other people wont be about. so if u see me please dont mill me for at least 10 seconds this time, thanks

I was one of a few "trying" to do wormholes. I tped down to the rig, and let everyone know i was doing the wormholes for the event and immedately this Star from MS2 started killing me over and over. As if she/he was the only one allowed to do wormholes and she/he wanted a huge killing spree.

From there I tped up to the swamp camp location to try wormholes and this worked for a few until once again Star started killing the person receiving the wormholes.

Some will say it is PVP, of course it is PVP and it was an even to help out those new players get to the rig and enjoy the game. Not much to enjoy when Star is trying to pk everyone and the helpers. A bit flustration and discouraging. But I still made the best of it.

Wow I missed this Event - looked massive....

This Star person seemed to of up set what looks like a well organized Event along with looks like a massive part of the community - I would of been so mad if I was part of it...

Well big thanks for nothing to this Star person & what ever soc (MS2 - I carnt see listed) there in - another weird person out just for them selves - seems to be more rotton apples popping up all the time.

Ruiening events & what looks like over 100 peoples fun is not very nice at all, shame on that person. Star who ever they are... Thumbs down to them.

And now Star started this "Team AWESOME".

The curious thing is... at the end Star opened Wormholes for anyone wanting to go from the Rig.

I see I need to chime in hear. I'm simply going to tell you what happened.

I was the one who organized this third oil rig field trip. I did it in honor of Mikah, who ran the 1st 2.

I knew there would be folks who would be waiting to "welcome" the noobies with a nice PK fest.

Since I knew Jenna Star Mercury was trying to turn a new leaf, (see the the above link LittleFeather mentions) I contacted him and asked him to be a protector, instead of a killer.

I got Mercury's word that if anyone else was going to attack the OJs, he would defend them, but if things got boring, well....

For those that know Star's love of PKing, this was as good as I was gonna get.

Things 1st started getting hairy when none of the wormhole creators I had lined up showed. (LittleFeather was one of them, but in fairness, we had trouble contacting each other before the event. I believe also she logged in after the thing was supposed to be underway, but I may be wrong on this.)

This, by the way was the reason for the huge delay. I apologize to everyone for that. I take full responsibility and will try to make sure things turn out better next time.

I contacted Mercury, who could do wormholes, and he agreed to do the honors.

Wormholes require someone on your Friends List to "receive" the wormhole to make it work, so Merc sent his friend to Swamp Camp and he stayed at the oil rig and would do it there.

Mercury got 1 or 2 wormholes done, but at that point, someone decided it was a great time to shoot at him.

Well, Mercury went into PK mode, and just killed everyone in sight.

So now, not only do I have a PK-crazy guy at the rig, but no wormholers.

Now, in fairness let me state clearly that Jenna Star Mercury was not the only person PKing the noobies. Others were doing that as well. However, that was fully expected. These kind of things always are when sending a large number of folks, especially noobies into a PVP zone.

Finally, LittleFeather logged in and agreed to do the wormholes. The problem was he was trying to do them at the rig, and I think Mercury saw someone else doing "his" wormholes as a bit of an invasion, so, bang, bang, LittleFeather.

Keep in mind at this point Merc had 50K Mind Essence I had given him to do the WHs. I think he felt the WHs were his responsibility, even if he was "otherwise engaged". (For the record, Mercury gave back the unused portion quite easily and was a perfect gentleman to me.)

LittleFeather eventually came to Swamp Camp to try to WH from there. However, his receiver simply became the object of retaliation.

I tried to make it easy by having LittleFeather's receiver simply do the wormholes at the rig's revive station. There's no PVP there, and we had teams that could escort everyone up to the rig.

For some reason, however, LittleFeather, was not going along with this setup. I think we had a communication problem about my intentions. (Note to self: Learn to communicate better) so things were still slow at first.

Finally the WHs started being made at a rapid pace (about 2-3 hours behind schedule, but hey. Who's counting?) and all passengers finally got to be sent to the rig.

I'm upset to hear how many got killed the moment they arrived and never bothered to try to head back, but instead immediately began the long walk home.

However some decided to tough it out and returned to the rig.

Much calmer now, Star had stopped fighting everyone, and a lot of folks really enjoyed the rig for what it is. A cool spot to hang out and chat with some *ahem* awesome folks.

At this point, I need to thank everyone on the trox killing and noob protecting teams. You guys did a great job. I also want to thank Skalman and his group, as well as a few others, (Goose, Tekkie, etc.) for coming down and "entertaining" everyone.

Well, all is well, and it's time to help the newbies still there to get home. LittleFeather did a few WHs from the rig revive and sent lots of folks back.

However, when LittleFeather came up to the rig to continue sending folks home, Star PKed her on the spot and took over the WH duties.

I think Star was feeling a bit "guilty" for going against what was asked of him, and wanted very much to fulfill his obligations. Well, that and I know LittleFeather and Star aren't on the best terms to begin with.

I really got the impression Star wanted to come out as a good guy in this. However a 66 person PK streak is a bit hard to justify.

In the end, while Star seemed to confuse everyone by working both for and against the n00bies, I believe I watched Star battle his toughest opponent.

No I don't mean Star is giving up PK or anything like that. He can't, won't, and shouldn't. I simply mean that Star was feeling bad that he let himself go PK crazy when it was truly inappropriate.


It's quite possible that Star simply shined light up my ass and had every intention at the beginning of PKing all the OJs, however I don't think so. Star's background in chess, PVP, etc. means he's a "think 3 moves ahead" kinda guy. It would've made more sense for him to wormhole everyone there and then start the pk fest. This above everything is what convinces me that Merc tried to do things right, but got attacked and...

I forgive ya Star, but the next time we do this kind of thing for the noobies, try a little better, ok?
