Congratulations to ... "The Chosen Few" for their win in Race # 2 of the Search and Rescue Event. The "Skillin' Villains" lost their VIP to death which eliminated them from finishing the race, so it was a run to the finish between "TCF" and "Rising Potentials" ... there was only about 2 minutes difference in their arrivals at the finish line, so a great race indeed.

Unfortunately, during the race both teams had CTDs (server issues) ... we saw those we collectively had on our FL who were in the race all leave EU at once, so we knew it was a server problem. We halted the race until everyone was back online, but in the meantime, BlackReign had died as a result of his rescue team crashing and having no protection, so it was necessary to have him escorted out to the coordinates where his team was waiting for him. We communicated with the teams via PM, and synchronized the start of the race again. TCF had a slight lead on Rising Potentials and was able to get to the finish line first.

As a result of the glitch in the race ... it was decided that while TCF was clearly the winning team and claimed the 400 ped prize (as did the winning teams in Race # 1), both teams would advance to the finals. Therefore, we will have four teams racing against each other in the finals for the big prize. Besides a ped prize, there will be other unique prizes that have not been announced yet, so all teams need to be present at the award ceremony directly after the finale. When details have been worked out, they will be announced in this thread.

Once again, I escorted a VIP ... this time is was BlackReign, and his rescue location happened to be the big mushroom. It had been a while since I had been at that location, so it was rather cool to see it again. While there, BR decided to practice shooting off fireworks again in anticipation of our future afterparty at the Anshe Bank. I managed to capture a pretty decent shot ...

Once BR's rescue team met up with him ... I was off to Ithaca to wait at the TP, which was the finish line for all 3 teams. A few friends from the Moonlight Shadow soc kept me company while I waited to judge which team came in first with their VIP.

tb ... Luckycharm - Ols

Ols was actually a VIP in the earlier race ... and tb not only helped get a VIP for Race # 1, but he volunteered to escort BlackReign back out to his team after the crash, so thank you tb for stepping in.

Once all teams arrived at Ithaca, there was a mini-celebration before we headed off to New Oxford and the Anshe Bank to deliver the prize to Team TCF. Ols was having a good time running around spraying everyone with his champagne bottle, while BlackReign once again practiced his fireworks. I actually think he hung around Moonie too much, who happens to be our resident pyromaniac.

Thanks again of course to our event coordinator Zar (rwin at EF) ... he spent a great deal of time sorting out the details, and I know that as a result of the two races today, and the wonderful feedback from the participants, this event will continue to be expanded and improved upon to make it more exciting and challenging. I have a feeling that the final tracks will provide some interesting moments, so the competing teams may want to hone up on their rescuing skills!

Thanks also to all the teams ... your event spirit was quite refreshing, and made it all that much more enjoyable. Looking forward to seeing you all at the finale.

Mindstar, just to make sure there are no misunderstanding, I was not in this race. I was going to fill in for Abby, but JC had a time mixup and SanSan took my place as I had to be at work.

Thank you very much, I was going by the roster, so I'll be sure to change it then. If any other names are not correct, please let me know. I don't highlight names when taking pics, and things were rather rushed, so appreciate the help. We know that last minute changes in team members can happen, so it's not a problem.

A SEARCH AND RESCUE PERSPECTIVE

So the first leg of the races are done and the winners can for now bask under the warm Calypso sun. Stories of their marvelous adventure will be told. Stories of how they braved Atrox and Snabblesnots alike in a hero’s effort to bring their stranded “assignments” safely home. This is not one of those stories…quite the contrary this is a story of those who didn’t win, from the perspective of the helpless maiden they were sent to rescure. The they I speak of is the society better known as the Skillin Villains and I the damsel in distress am Liz Mirah. Here is my story of how everything began, and came to a tragic end.

THE SETUP

My journey began at 0100 Calypso time in wonderful Sakura City. The first thing I did and usually do was peruse the auction. I was soon contacted by my friend and event coordinator Azara ‘Zar Necroo and instructed to head out at once to New Oxford for planning and setup. Once in New Oxford and after being introduced to some new faces, and greeting the old, I was split into a 3 man team and was soon on my way to my “pickup” location on Eudoria. Torn TB Banner was point man, I took up the middle and a new friend participating in the event Phaedrus Eros Adrastus took up the rear. We teleported from New Oxford to Hadesheim East and from there traveled North West to Corinth Hills. The journey was uneventful filled with random chatter, and mobs. Not more than maybe 10 to 15 minutes later we were in Corinth Hills and I was asked to disarm and stay put, alone.

THE CALM

Being left all alone with nothing but a lone building and turret to keep me company made my mind begin to wander. I found myself contemplating things like, how I got to Calypso, what happened to the other planets the probes went to, and just how was the war going with the robots. I soon grew bored and opened a communications channel with Zar, who of course was busy with event prep and setup, but I bothered her anyway. My conversation was cut quickly however as green dots were quickly approaching upon my position.

“My Heroes!”

“Hi we’re here to rescue you.” Calls out one of my rescuers to which I quickly reply “My Heroes!” (Literally and figuratively I was going nuts out there..hehe.) The Skillin Villains team consisting of Oleg Oleg McMullery, Trex Twitchie Prada and Phombar Chuck philegaar quickly retrieved me and instructed me to run until I could run no more, and then keep running after that ( not really but that’s the kind of exciting atmosphere it was. ) They actually just told me to keep running unless I was attacked, in which case I was to stay close to be healed and so that’s how it went. From the Corinth Hills we set out North North Easterly towards Ithica. The first leg of our journey was fairly tame with only Cornundacauda hindering our path. Very quickly we came upon the river divide between the Eudoria mainland and Ithica Island. The crossing was one of the shortest paths that could possibly be found, taking no more than 15 seconds to cross.

DANGER!

“Now for the hard part.” Says Oleg, knowing full well the Atrox danger that lurked ahead. Despite this onward North we went. As we continued on our journey we soon noticed another set of green dots coming in from the South West and quickly catching up. It was the Chosen Few team, “We still have a bit of a lead on them.” Says someone from my team, a lead that from the looks of it was quickly diminishing. Atrox now almost completely surround us, gunshots ring from every direction I had no time to see behind me however if it was a war I would have said we were losing, two of my teammates fell behind to hold off the hordes, however there were just to many 2 Atrox managed to break their line and came after Chuck who was ahead of me. He had no choice but to stop to defend himself. However it was too late, The Atrox smelled fresh unprotected meat, me. Chuck quickly ran back to me and tried to agro them off me. He succeeded with the initial 2 but by this time more had joined in the fury. At this point my health was half gone, Chuck in a brave last ditch effort starts healing me and is killed. My other two teammates were now also by my side doing what they could to both protect me and fight off the Atrox however it was just too much to handle. I remember the roar of a dragon, and a peaceful sleep. “I didn’t heal her in time I failed, I’m sorry!” shouts one of my teammates over my inanimate body.

THE AFTERMATH

After resurrecting I find myself in Ithica where Star, Tb and Ols await the winners, we all start chatting about random things. Meanwhile team Skillin Villains contemplates on their loss. “We failed, I’m a loser.” Says Oleg, feeling bad about the whole affair “Come join the winners circle Oleg.” I reply. The Skillin Villains may not have won the event but they are definitely winners and will always be “My Heroes!”

hmmm we didn't lose our VIP due to death.... we didn't even participate in the secon race

Excellent little story there Liz ... I really enjoyed reading it, and I'm glad you told it from a different perspective. It just added such a wonderful dimension to this whole race scenario.

Apologies to Liz for getting her killed, but at least she ended up safely in Ithaca - and ahead of the other VIPs, so we won, sorta

We should have come up with a more effective strategy to deal with those troxies. Almost as soon as we saw them, we were attacked by a bunch of them. The pressure of The Chosen Few approaching probably didn't help us, it panicked us into taking less care than we ought to have done.

Result - one mauled VIP

Grats to TCF and Rising Potentials - looking forward to facing you and CRT in the final as part of the SV team who did make it.

Both myself and a few others have commitments the first weekend in November.

Gratz to all the winners! Although we didn't win and keep our VIP alive, this was a fantastically exciting event and I enjoyed it very much. I will definitely be joining up for sequels. Great idea and tons of fun! And Liz was a great VIP. Just sorry she got eaten by that pesky trox.
