NEWS: A Massive Landslide Buries North Amethera Settlement

A landslide triggered by heavy rains in Northern Amethera has torn through a remote new settlement, causing massive property damage and possible loss of life.

Local authorities said that the indigenous fauna also suffered. Bodies of eight fouls were found amongst countless other animals who died when the avalanche of mud and stones about 100 meters wide buried most of the small settlement of Outback Land Area 32 in the northern region of Amethera, just North of Shinook Jungle Settlement.

The landowner and at least 20 settlers are reported to have survived the disaster, but many more could be still buried under the landslide, which is in some places 3-4 meters deep.


Disaster - but was it natural? Our reporter points to the place where only the wind turbine marks the spot,
where OLA 32's Outback Shed and Fertilizing Station lies buried under 3 meters of sludge.

But it is possible that easily avoidable human errors have made this tragedy much worse than it might otherwise have been?

Calypso Central Government official (who did not want to be named for fear of reprisal) says the MA's Environment Ministry had ample information on the dangers of flooding in the areas that were worst damaged.

He believes that the settlers should have been discouraged from living in the risky areas, a conclusion that many others are beginning to reach as they find their own people settling in floodplains and on river banks.

He also says that government's humanitarian aid to the landslide-stricken area is totally inadequate.

Even the disaster occurred over two months ago no help was dispatched as yet. Neither Calypso's Central Government, nor MA Environment Ministry seems to care about the fortunes of the settlers and the landowner.

When I visited that area, I just thought something had to be wrong...
I mean... there only was a "giant fan" instead of a shop keeper...

it could have been worse ! Imagine if it had been floods, no earth left at all and only water ... A huge swimming pool (giving some ideas for programmers) so that no one could even mine on it.

Wow even FEMA responded within a week of New Orleans going down.

I have never been one to say that ANYONE should get better treatment from support than anyone else--But Geez you would think that they would at least put in another fertilizer station or something to get the LA up and going. 3 months is a long time, Maybe you could get some "Global Gaming" support from "other" game designers--Like when another government sends troops and aid to a country that has been hit hard by a disaster--we could request "Aid" from "Sounds Like" or one of those "Countries" we cannot mention here.
