There's a perfectly rational explanation. Molisks are so short that when they kill their victims and steal their armor, they always destroy the footguards during the toe-biting-off sessions.

The fact they never carry faceguards has a more unique story. It is little known that molisks actually don't grow their own teeth. They were vegetarians when colonists first arrived on Calypso, and completely docile. However, during the robot wars, human corpses were strewn across most molisk habitats, and they became enamored of the white shiny objects that are human teeth. With the natural magical metaphysical energies that many native lifeforms on calypso exhibit, they transplanted human teeth into their own mouths and used them as symbols of status. As a result, stronger molisks tend to be more aggressive around colonists, ever pursuing their next set of rank badges.

Yes, this also means that our own tailors are selling clothing with buttons refined from human teeth, though they will deny this of course.
