Ivan Hurricane Katrina (an offensive name)

I was also impacted in a fairly substantial way by hurricane Katrina, and no, I don't have even the slightest problem with the name. As a matter of fact, I would not have even given it a thought, if not for your thread. We live in hurricane territory, we accept the risks.

What's next, people in Kansas getting upset because someone picks the name "Tornado Joe"?

Doesn't anyone else find this name offensive, given the suffering of thousands of people at the hands of Katrina? Perhaps I am just too sensitive to it since it hits so close to home. Anyhow....I think it speaks to the character of a person to use such a name.

OMG.... I wish the world were filled with Adults... bad things happen... and yes.. it sucks... but please.... don't be so sensitive... God forbid someone did something REALLY horrible to you.

And thank God (I can see from the responses) there are still people out there with the Fortitude to deal with life... we will need people like that to survive our future on this planet.

Seriously though, i feel real bad about all that has happened due to Katrina, but did you ever think that maybe the person in question created this avatar to remember Hurricane Katrina so that people wouldn't forget how terrible it was? People grieve in different ways and that might just be one of them.

I saw it too, and what did I think?

Yes the hurricane caused death and destruction and its very sad.

However, Hurricane Katrina is just a name, some-one originally chose it, and an avvy copied it.

Sorry if you are bothered by it, or it caused you pain by being reminded of it.

I didnt have a problem with it, at first, but can respect your opinion.

Again another disaster (hardly natural) would hurt alot of people see-ing that name. I for one would be offended, simply because, I dont play a game to be reminded of such things.

Perhaps you folks are right and I am too sensitive. Perhaps there is a valid cause for using such a name. However....

Imagine if someone named themsevles Myanmar Cyclone or Chinese Earthquake Killer or something like that.

I am an author, so I find censorship offensive, and I would never censor such a name....I just noted that maybe it was offensive. I know I find the name offensive, personally. How someone could choose such a name that caused pain is just beyond me. However, I did not state a course of action like censure or banishment....just made a statement of what I thought.

If what I think about the name offends any of you....welll.....

Seriously though i am sorry about you being affected in the hurricane, must have been hell. The trouble with hurricanes though is that they are always given a persons name, david, katrina, susan... so i think chances are that the name is a coincidence.
