This is right on point.

Like many things in life - it's not the action - it's the intention.

If the player intended to offend people and force them to relive all those bad memories - then of course the name is offensive.

But if the player wanted a name that would be symbolic of a forceful style of play that would make people notice - then the name is spot on.

yea that name is in no way offensive and I could not see it being offensive. If it somehow said something like it was karm or something then it could be offensive. The name just makes a refrence to an event. I mean some people from the armed forces play this game and to them guns could be offensive. So should we all disarm before we revive or walk into a crowded area? Maybe someone had an ugly bf or gf and finds feffs and/or argos bring back memories, should we send in a support case to MA? I say if it refrences an event or something like that then let it go, if it is something that makes a statement about an event then it is a bit offensive.

First - I couldn't have said it better. I don't find the name offensive in any way, shape or form - as I'm sure most people don't.

Sorry to hear about the losses of our fellow EU people in Katrina, especially friends in EU

I went through Hurricane Andrew in Miami - not fun !!
However, my aunt did go into labor in the middle of it all .. and of course named the baby boy, Andrew

I worked through Katrina and spent countless hours trying to locate places for people to stay in and out of Louisiana - so please don't think my sympathies aren't there, because they are.

I just take issue with fact that the original poster, of all things, finds this name offensive.

This ava name Hurricane Katrina does not offend me, and it did not affect me, but when thinking it , it would not prolly offend me if it did affect me...

But i see the point of drawing the line somewhere, was it Dj who brought it up...

But me personally i could not be easily offended by just some avatars name, prolly would respond it with ignoring it , or :rolf: depending on the case...

But there are different likes of peeps playing, some get offended more easily than others... But a thing like this in a multicultural game like this is really impossible to MA to control, except for the extreme cases... and again who is to say what is extreme... It is yet again dependant on cultural background& etc stuff...

I only find it offensive when three people around me get globals and I get a yellow spam "This creature didn't carry any loot", but for the topic, I don't think you can blame people for such names, maybe for others, f.e. racist or nationalsocialistic names, but if we would cut every hurricane, murderer, weapon, sharp thing, etc. name out of game we would all be named Hans or Kermit. Just imagine your name is Charlie and someone connects your name to Charlie Manson and wants it to remove, can't work this way I think...

I only saw it recently (crafting globals) I must admit, I thought it a little insensetive - even if he is using the name to prove a point to himself, the fact you call yourself after a disaster that affected thousands upon thousands of people is pretty ignorant.

It doesnt upset me to the point I would make a thread about it, but I bet it would have done had i lost family members or been affected by the disaster.
