Post skilling.. rifle vs hg

from time to time i hear someone say rifle, or hg, is slower to skill than the other. why? i found myself thinking about this..

im trying like hell to get serendipity.. cuz i suck. i have about 2300 rifle, and many other combat skills higher than that. not long now.. the only problem is, i wanna switch to hg. thought about selling some rifle skill to pay for a hg chip, and skill hg from there, to get serendipity. so i pulled out a calculator.

for the sake of simplicity, lets say you skill constantly, on another avatar in a ring, for 1 hour. 3600 seconds.

3600/1.4s outbacko reload = 2571.blah shots/hour
3600/0.8s m2201 reload = 4500.0 shots/hour

rifle: 2571 shots * 2 ammoburn = 5142 total ammoburn for 1 hr rifle skilling
hg: 4500 shots * 1 ammoburn = ...yeah.

rifle: 2571 shots * 0.02 pec/shot = 51.42 pec decay (thats weird.)
hg: 4500 shots * 0.02 pec/shot = 90.0 pec decay

rifle: 5142 pec ammo + 51.42 pec decay = 5193.42 pec cost/hour
hg: 4500 pec ammo + 90.0 pec decay = 4590 pec cost/hour

so as you see, hg costs you about 6 ped per hour less. or in other words, skilling handgun costs you less money to take more shots in the same period of time. hg is clearly superior in terms of both time and money. since dmg per second on m2201 and outbacko are different by a whole 0.7 dmg, youll kill about the same number of mobs on a skillhunt, so as for any hofs/globals youd get the same or damn close to the same number of them if skilling hg. plus, you take significantly more shots which means more instances of skillgain.

This is what I have been trying to tell my soc mates as well... Some have listened and some have not.

If you skill argo youngs with Man MPH you can just about break even and gain skills from it

If you do, lets say 100 ped skilling/day, that's 3000 peds a month (plus armor decay which will not be that bad if you use rascal with 5a plates on it)

You don't need that many GSIs to break even.

It takes less than 150 shots to kill an argo young, so that would be about (300.000 ammo burn a month (If we don't take decay into it) divided with 150 shots to kill 1 argo young)

That's 2000 argo youngs killed in a month.
You will need (If you get absolutely no other loot) 20 GSIs to break even.


Okay, I used some easy numbers here... Hehe

but you should also take into concideration that you wont get skills "easier" from handgun just because it fires faster Handgun goes slower then rifleskills, specially after 2k if Im not terribly mistaken (I mean I heard some uber say this.)

Yeah Skam's right. Handgun raises at exactly half the speed of Rifle between 2000 and 3000; and I think at about that rate from then on.

I have heard same (I dont follow handgun skill enough to notice myself).

I think skill gains are balanced with their using speed. Handguns are generally faster than rifles thus their skill gaining is relatively slower.

yes that counts from 2k skills and up..

i use mainly handgun besides axes but rifle is nearly overtaking my hg skills beyound 2k...

I have skilled in both hand gun and rifle but stoped useing a rifle some time ago as handgun skill gain was cleary faster and cheaper.

i think that in the long run like Skam said how HG will slow down everything is realy balanced in PE. even if you where to compare longblade to rifle and hand gun in the grand sceme of things.

Although to i think MA has made doing things in a certain order and balanced way.
I'll tell you my chossen path of ways to do things and why because it follows with these stats. And i recomend it to all new commers.and none of that throwing money away at the ring biz...

First I skill longblade to 1400-2k-this gives me more HP faster and lots of combat reflexes and evade skills. along with using a fap more giving me more First Aid skills.
Second skill Handgun to 1200-2k-as from what i understand above and from others my aim skill will grow fast, along with Ranged Damage skill and more combat reflexes and evade.
Third skill Rifle to whatever you want. Now that you've got some good skills to back it all up you'll do pretty well and be able to move onto those big ass mobs with some more ease as they wont hit you that much from all the combat reflex and evade skill,and you'll be doing better dmg with the aim skill and Range Damage skill you gained from handgun.(which will probably make up for that 6 ped difference)

at least thats my theory
