Yeah, I agree. I'm not saying the EU's going down the tubes, just as I was trying to tell others that the US isn't going down the tubes. It doesn't mean they're in for a cake walk, though.

And hey-I'm from Florida, and after a couple years back when 3 hurricanes hit my hometown in the same MONTH-hell, if you can't laugh at life, you might as well end it. Politics is going to be one flying circus that even Monty Python couldn't dream up in the next 20 years or so =)

I disagree with you here completely. Both myself and TONS of people I know deposit MORE when they are loosing not less. This is because we know it "always come back in the end" admittedly you need to be able to handle the ped card balance fluctuations but it is a numbers game eventually you will win and in my experience the more you lose the more you eventually win when it does pay. Like I said I am not the only one I know who does this either.

Don´t think the sky is falling in germany, although there are some major problems that need to get solved soon.

Per year, 250.000 (150K official) german leave germany. That is more than it was even during the 3rd Reich under Hitler. And not many are coming into it...the german economy and companies have atm a very nasty attidude regarding what they consider "salary".

For highly qualified work (graduated, special skills,...) you can expect 2400 Euro brutto, leaving 1400 netto (single), official 8 hours day, 40 hours/week (48 can be done). The reality is: 45-50 hours in 5 days and you are likely to be fired after 1-2 years. Work laws are ignored daily (and dont even try to rely on sueing, that works in germany a bit differently).

After a year unemployed, you get Hartz-IV, which is considered legal slavery: You get your rent paid (if your flat meets the requirements and only up to a certain sum, which is often enough below what the market sais) and 345 Euro per month. For that, you have to accept ANY job up to 20 hours and get about 1 euro per hour - and you have to pay transportation yourself.

A common scenario is: A skilled worker gets fired, to be then "hired" through the security system again for 1 euro per hour. Same work. He has no choice but to accept.

Regarding medical system: Not so for free as people think. For once, it is paid by your salary (brutto) and employer. Secondly, whenever you go to a doctor, and be it just for checking your teeth, you pay 10 euro in addition per quarter.

Then you have the GEZ, or the forced payment per month to the church, etc...

Germany has the biggest braindrain of all industrial countries.
