I created a program in C# once that did this very thing, lost it though during a thunderstorm that took out my development PC, among other things...

Now I just use Excel.

If you don't have excel download Open office

It has all the same types of programs as office professional Eg. wordprocessor, spreadsheet, database, powerpoint etc. It can read and write microsoft files. Its FREE, most that use it thinks its better than the microsoft offering and it is continually in development being opensource. There are thousands of plugins to help you do what you want. Its only 127MB. It doesn't suffer from all the security threats that Microsoft office does. It has a version for just about any operating system.

If you hate Excel you're really going to hate google sheet. Maybe it has improved, but last time i tried to use it, it aggravated me no end. Give Open Office's spreadsheet a spin, maybe.

I still use Excel because OO's plotting and regression capabilities were weak when i last needed them.

So my vote is...Excel. :P
