No you don't.

The given "fees" are ok for you if you continue to play. If they weren't ok. Then you wouldn't play.

Despite what anyone says, if they continue to play, they are fine with the costs.

We are all still here playing , and those that say they aren't but still post must have some tie to the game.

Hmmm, actually MA DID take the $1000 you gave them.
If your avatar worth $3000 then you just took cash from other players.

I guess the right figure is probably about $1/H, when they communicate they say $3 just to have more investers.

Well even if I accept your premise, then it still only costs me ~$0.25/hr and every hour I play without another deposit reduces this figure.

I could easily play the game for the rest of my life without ever making another deposit (not that opalo hunting naked appeals that much to me), that would make my effective costs close to zero.

Playing costs are whatever you want them to be, thats the great thing about EU.

As you are 100% in control of what you pay, you always pay the fee what you think is worth it. When you vote no you are not playing EU.

Um, yeah I get what you're saying, and it did occur to me when I was writing that sentence... But what I really meant was this:

There are quite a few people who frequent EU who are 20/30-somethings who have fairly good jobs, who play EU because it's a fairly entertaining shooter. You can spend 5 or 6 hours on the odd occasion, and shoot through a hell of a lot of ammo and decay.

These are the people who don't mind paying some real money to get ahead in EU, so they don't have to worry too much about economising, and can have some fun. They just want to get their ava up to the level where you can do some of the more fun things without constantly being pwned by mobs.

It's my opinion that these people are the ones who get really stung in EU. Sure, they should watch how they spend, but if you have a bit of free time you want to blast away, it's probably the last thing you want to worry about doing.

In fact, I'd go as far to say that for these people, EU is totally the wrong choice of game. But these are the folks who bring the big cash to EU in the first place. Surely these are the last ones you want to drive away by being too expensive?

Ideally, a game should reward equally for the amount of time and/or money you're willing to invest. I think EU eventually rewards a hefty investment of money, but to do so you need an even heftier investment of time.

I know this is an extreme case, and there are various shades of grey around it, but I do get the feeling this is the main cause of the 'EU is a rip-off' attitude people have.

If you want to shove 50 bucks into EU and hunt small mobs with an Opalo every now and then, you're probably going to have a few hours of entertainment ahead of you... but beyond that?

Those who never deposit are still paying its just that someone else deposited the cash unless you spend 100% of your time sweating and give it away.

Even if you break even on hunting / mining / crafting by selling items, your still paying to be in EU. So unless you never spend a pec then your still paying, there is no such thing as playing for free its just someone else paying the bill.
