Alternate Title: Everyone must be gone fishing
Everyday, I come and check Entropia Forum for [hopefully] new and exciting information about EU. Except for the recent teasers, there hasn't been much recently.... and no announcements of events to come anytime soon. I try NOT to look at the Global Trends because it seems for the last 6 months, the numbers are almost always negative. At first, I didn't let it bother me too much seeing about -30% trend for hunting, until I noticed that my own returns were more or less reflecting the global trends! So I've been playing less and less. Don't expect me on today, as I don't want to lose another half what little I have left. ![]() I think MindArk really has to do something about player retention at this point, or there won't be anyone left (except a few super-ubers from the top socs) by the time VU 10.0 (aka cry2) is released. It's been obvious for a long time that MindArk rely mostly on the player-base and word-of-mouth to attract new players. Sure I've heard of the MindArk booth at various game conventions, but I've not heard of any other advertising by MindArk what-so-ever. With the corporate split that created First Planet company, and the way planet partners are talked about, I get the impression MindArk has washed it's hands of attracting new players and dumped the responsibility on FPC and the other planet partners. I do get the impression that Creative Kingdom and NextIsland (and the others) are more likely to spend some money on traditional advertising outlets (like some other MMORPG makers do) and hopefully there will be a huge influx of new players. I'm sure I'm not the only one hoping for that! I have a suggestion for MindArk, but the CFO and shareholders won't like it: Forgo the profit margin until VU10.0 and new players start arriving. If they don't, I'm afraid so many players will also take a vacation that the effect on the profit margin will be nearly the same as returning it to the loot pool.Afterthought: MindArk, by spinning off FPC, have put another layer between the player-base and the "brain-trust" in charge, and historically, they have never been very forthcoming or compromising. So maybe the only hope if for FPC to turn on triple skill gains until vu10.0 ![]() |

well while your conclusion might be valid, the point of reaching it isn't.
you can't tell anything by just looking at the percentages on this website. After all it just reflects how many globals there have been, compared to yesterday. So if there were 4 times as many globals yesterday then there are normally, then there would still be twice the amount of globals today then there are normally. So while there is great loot, you get misconcieve the numbers and feel bad because it's below 100%. having said that, i could do with some better loot myself though ![]() |

Incorrect. The Global Trends shown on EF are a comparison to the overall average since the tracker started collecting stats. The trends shown on the tracker site are the comparison to the previous 24 hours.

Well lets hope they fill the servers up with players after VU10 because approx 10000 active players is very poor compared to other games and I dont think a consistant economy can really work with such a small playerbase. Get 100k active players and things should be alot better and more consistant for everybody (hopefully)

Dam it I typed a freaking long post for the first time and it gets lost ?? I suck
![]() Well look at the #'s here on EF and also the globals in chat scroll - when it takes a while for a globals to pop up - log the hell out cause u will lose a lot. Yea yea - some will do good so please dont bother trying to tell me that crap. This is my opinion and when #'s are negative and slow global spam - dont even try unless ur a lucky s.o.b - casue most of us are not. |

I had no idea there were so few players in EU. I must say that if you get away from the hotspots like PA, Swamp Camp and Nea's Place that the world seems very empty. I've only been in the game for about 2 weeks, but when I did the Eudoria TP run (which took me about 4 hours over 2 days or so) I didn't meet anyone much. Many of the apartment blocks are empty of people much of the time.
It might be useful for MA to make the world seem fuller by putting random NPCs in, even if all they do is wander around; it ought to be possible to get rid of them when PCs appear. Much the same way as in the single player games like Elite and Freelancer, for example. Another thing; for a MMORPG where so much depends on the economy (like the very existence of the universe!) the market system seems a clumsy mess. For one that really works well, have a look at the one created for the game EVE Online. (You can get a free trial of that, too, to have a look. I am not trying to advertise it, BTW - the two games are very different indeed, and probably attract different people in general.) |
