All trades are final, huge value items in EU and lack of contracts. Should MA change something?

It is sad to start such a thread. It is after a scam of huge proportions. Someone was hacked and he lost many items from few people. The market value of items stolen from that account was huge. MM+IMKIII+Tango+UL SIB fap + amps + a lot more crap not worth mentioning. So it was way above 500k ped at that time. 50.000$ scam or more.

I know the policy of this forum of not naming scammers, so I won't. I hope this case will eventually be solved and the most valuable things will be somehow recovered. But this is bigger than just one case. No matter what the value is.

We don't have a way of lending things in EU because MA says that lending items influences the balance of the game. Up to a point, I can agree with that. But the problem is that is part of the human nature to be part of a society and help one another, trust one another. Because of that, with or without contracts, people lend items every day. People rent items every day. Based on trust. I don't see how giving items on trust only will have less influence in the game than having contracts. The concept is the same. Some people get to use other people items. In the case we have today, they get to use them UNSAFE in the so called safest virtual world. In this case, those who borrow can - and sometimes do steal the items, and the victim has nothing much to do. With contracts, we could lend items not only on trust, using a built in system that is safe.
EU needs that. It is not okay to have items with such value and just claim that all trades are final and those who lost the items are stupid to trust the other person. We can't treat all other people like criminals just because some were thiefs. And I am dissapointed to see MA asking us to do just that. Treat all our friends like they are thiefs. Not trusting them. Even some in community said something like the owner of the item was too stupid to give it away like that.

Lending items is not an isolated incident in EU. Is something common. It happens everyday. Most people don't get scammed and most people are honest. This is why we have such a great community.

In cases when such scams happen, we need help from MA. And we do not need the help only to help the victims. But to help also the game. How can EU be the safest virtual universe when people can lose huge sums of money in one click because it is no system to protect the value they have?
At this point it seems that all we can do is to treat each other like thieves. Because is good for the balance... How does this sound for any sane person?

We already have such contracts with names of person and item, expiration date and amount of money (wich could be 0.00 PED for private loans): at the banks.

Coudn't be that much effort to open this system for private loaning. Maybe at a special terminal or as a variant of the private trade.

I was extremely sad to hear of this scam, not least for the impact to the RL owners of the avatars involved :s

What was MA's response... are they helping recovery or taking the *all trades are final* route? Are they helping with any police enquiries? $50K scam would see someone in prison for a number of years in the not so virtual world.

This doesn't matter in this thread. It deals with MA/FPC's intention to provide a climate of trust.

I totally agree with you. There needs to be such a system. I am a very honest guy. and to be honest with you i am sick of proving myself to some new person every damn time i find someone new to buddy up with.

Not that i am a moocher or anything. i am not. You know Trust comes more easy, if there is a system of safegaurds, and punishments to a person if they do not fulfill their end of the bargen.

IRL you can loan someone money, and get them to write down that yes they indeed owe you money, and if they never repay that money, you take them to court. same for items irl.

I get it this is a game. but some other Economics based MMO's have a contract system. Why can their not be one where real money is involved.

You know if the Real world had a one Police government, i am sure they would enforce the laws in this game regarding theft. I mean there isnt, thankfully. but seriously Real money economy needs a system of protections.

A few items that you own changed hands of some avatars that you own also, but there is a problem Mindark. the Value on those items Dont belong to you, Put in further safegaurds to protect peoples values. then you can truly say " there is a system in place that prevents this risk. you took the risk and you were warned." Sure thats what you will say now also, but youneed to cover your ass just a little more.

Please make player to player contracts a reality. it will make the game better for all. Including yourselves.

Although. if it was a hack account how did the other person get the the login info? and if they knew the person IRL, and took the money from the avatar and withdrew it that would be grounds for theif charges IRL. something along the lines of bank fraud, or something.

I was just asking a simple question.

Also- MA/FPC's intention to provide a climate of trust, is for me/others to know if hackers can get past the goldcard system, which did have a role in this case ( unless they had no goldcard ).
