First off, all the money put into the game is held by MA and the planet partner *currently only FPC* and is likely spread over a variety of investments in order to make money off of it. Value deductions in the form of decay are not recouped by the loot pool, value decay is strait to the pockets of MA and the partner. Everything but decay is allowed to cycle in the system, decay does not cycle in the system and is therefore money pulled out of that system. The system in play theoretically has a value equal to all deposits ever made less decay, witdrawls and PED stacks/cards/etc. If it hasn't been withdrawn, ate by the decay of an item, and isn't PED in a pile or on your card, it is in the system.
The misconception is that MA only makes money off of decay, that is not true - decay is just the only means by which MA removes money from the system - money that is put in by player deposits. Once decay gets it, MA can free up that money and it is pure profit, but they can run investments to make money on the money they have from deposits - business investments and the like are one of the ways real-world banks make money (in addition to overdraft fees, interest, etc). |

I have always viewed it as a closed system. I can walk into my bank today (in theory) and withdraw every cent. I cannot do that in EU. MA decides when the withdraw will occur... and rest assured they are not going to allow themselves to "go under" because of a single withdraw.

Look at it like this:
You buy 100 PED worth $10 (actually you only get 96.5 PED but leave that aside for a moment) In theory you can withdraw that 100 PED and get your $10 back (actually you will get a bit less but leave that aside for a moment) You buy (or repair) a weapon for your 50 PED and buy ammo for 50 PED. You then go hunting and manage to get back 50 PED tt of loot. This replaces your ammo. HOWEVER, your weapon has decayed by (say) 20 PED. Now you only have 70 PED to take out of the game, which will give you $7 in theory. Take into consideration the charges for depositing and removing then you can only get out just over $6. MA have then taken almost $4 from you (But you have had a couple of hours of fun...perhaps?) Tha is how MA make money from decay |
