Pricefinder source released..

A lot of people has been asking how Pricefinder works, and we might be closing down the site soon... (Due to lack of support from MA's side.. dont ask, the thread isent about that)

So... we have decided to release the entire source code, database, images... you name it...

The database has been stripped of all the users.. so your details are still secret...

The sourcecode is some 15 mb i think, packed.. and can be downloaded here...

Have a look.. questions can be asked here... I might answer if I get time...

(Playing other games now... BF2 has just been released, bought that today)

Yeah we talked about this last week. I am very sad that this has to happen. Stupid Ma. Well I have used your site a lot and was please with it every time I used it. Also this must mean that the Pricefinder irc channel will go down which I always used for Bargains. I just hope that someone will take the time and start up a similiar site that is as good as yours. You were a great contribution to the community. I will now have to use the "other" price sites.

Hope you have Fun with BF2, Have fun and kill some peeps for me.

i suppose i have a question...

how do you implement this into a web page? i would like to be able to still have PF functions, but just be able to run it on a personal PC for my own use (not on the internet, only one user... me), but i do not know how to correctly create the necessary pages, etc (how to get it to read from the CL, how to display it, stuff like that)

im a n00b at this sort of thing, but i would like to keep it running, if only just for myself to use...

i know it may seem like a stupid question to ask, but i like PF and wanna keep usin it

You just need IIS if you are running windows.. or some apache plugin if you are running a linux machine...

Then you need to place the files as they are in the packed file, on your webserver...

The "database" folder might need to go into a "scripts" folder on your server... just "below" the "wwwroot" folder...

Other than that.. you are set to go... the pie charts wont be there as you dont have that plugin.. cant remember its name.. but its in the code..

Other than that you need some kind of admin task that updates the database.. (for that you need a computer thats online 24/7-365)

The computer basically has to call the pricefinder/update.asp or pricefinder/updatedb.asp file.. cant remember which one... that file rips the info from the clientloader and throws it into your own database...


you dont have to be 1337 to set it up.. but i dont think complete asp newbs can do it either...

Just wait till w0lfie hears this, he's gonna be seriously pissed.
He's almost at the end of PriceFinder Remote after sitting for weeks on a shitty piece of code trying to work it out. He finally worked it out yesterday while I was at work.. he was very pleased..

Maybe I should try and hide this thread from him

Like ulti said, I was writing PriceFinder Remote, and it was 98% finished, but seeing as VB has no Print controls, I had to design my own. Unfortunately there was a persistent bug that I just couldnt fix until I finally found it yesterday

Well, if anybody will be taking it up, please PM me, otherwise I now have some seriously nice scrap code
