Why wait untill next year to do the obvious?
Put on a small tax (say... 5% of all personal trades?), open up a few more shops around Amethera, add a few market-booths to Hadesheim, increase droprate of shopkeepers now they got the tax-kick too

..and bingo! Its time to let the auctioneers sweep the streets of Mineopolis in stead. Let the poor guys have some sun in their green faces

And let the people make the living on their own again!

Well MA..or rather Marco states that they only profit off Decay , Meaning all Fee's in the auction get thrown back into the 'loot pool' , why close down the auction and get worse loots ?
I'm sure the auction throws quite a few ten thousands a day into the lootpool...

You're trying to get rid of my no1 way of selling stuff. IfI need to take more time to sell stuff, EU just gets less interesting for me. i say "Keep The Auction!"

At this time i dont think shutting down the auction would help, although im certainly in favour of a move towards more independant shop keepers. If they wasnt so expensive i woulld use one in my appartment to sell my stuff. However atm they are at a unrealistic price.

the auction is an incredibly important part of the entropia world and economy.

without the auction we would have no data as to the current price of an item. some might argue that the auction prices are inflated, but at least there is data to argue over.

without the auction prices would fluctuate wildly across the entropia world. an item might sell for tt+5 at a shop in Hades C but sell for tt+25 at a shop in CND. without the auction price comparison would be just about impossible.

without the auction, hunters and miners and other occupations would need to spend more time selling their items than engaging in the activities they find fun. not everyone can buy a shop or want to buy a shop, those without shops would be forced to stand around and waste time selling.

without the auction, resellers would have the upper hand. people without shops who don't want to spend hours selling would be forced to sell to resellers. resellers would have a greater impact on the economy than the auction does today.

the auction allows for players to 'buy it now' when they are in a hurry to secure an item. if you want to buy a looted piece of armor without the auction system - how many shops would you need to visit before you would find that particular piece of armor?

the auction is not the problem with the economy today.

No disrespect but do you honestly believe that MA only make profit from decay? This is not me having a go at Marco but we can't still believe something that was stated many months ago to still be truthful. It was PE whe that staement was said1 We've seen exactly how EU can dramatically change over the past few months to ensure, not only it's suposed longivity but also how things have changed to keep MA making money. I don't believe for one second that MA don't make money from Auc! I also don't beleive that they don't make money from the 3.5% fee they charge for depo's and withdrawals.

MA will work on a markup %. It doesn't matter where the money came from, they will look at amount taken, and give 70% or so back.

From their business plan, I expect they collect the decay from all items used and subtract 1USD (or whatever their cost/hr of playing EU was) for every hour that every avatar spends online. The rest go into the loot pool. Simple, efficient, and as error-proof as technology goes. So long as there is enough decay that there is some peds left over to go back into the system, MA need not get income from other sources. Think of mining amps and how much they decay, I doubt MA will ever be in need to other sources of revenue.
