Are you guys sure you just aren't trying to jump forward too far. I always have hunted like a noob and haven't deposited in AGES. Maybe you guys are just trying to hunt with too good of weopons.

Why do you people keep saying, " I don`t want to make money , i just want to have fun." I do not agree at all. There`s a connection between making money and having fun. Are you having fun when you lose 100-200 ped on a hunt or a mining trip?? I DON `t THINK SO! If you want pure fun you just go ahead and play some Doom3, Battlefield, UT2004 and other games. The fun here is related to money and the investment and the evolution of the character. It`s an investment of time and effort and as every effort it has its joy, for you really enjoy the trip more than getting to the destination. One does get excited and has lots of fun thinking of the prospect of having powerful character and make money ingame. We are all pleased of having a hof, or making money via trade and other stuff like that.
Don`t tell me you enjoy PE for the pure action adventure that it has to offer. Cos there are much more evolved games out there in terms or action and graphics. The hunting/3dshooter aspect of the game is very poor. No one can seriously say he`s taking real pleasure in that.So come on people...don`t keep saying that cos it`s lame and stupid.

Wowzers
OK- here are my initial thoughts and concerns with the idea PJ~

As Kjetil and others that have stated, devaluing the PED will also devalue our items in game. Sure this does not really affect low-end players.... indeed, more power to them! They would be able to purchase things in game for less than every1 else purchased them for... how is that fair however? While many ppl love to rip on ubers (and I ocassionally include myself in that crowd ) it would be irresponsible of MA to devalue their items and I do not think the pay off of gaining more newbies would necessarily reconcile the balance. Furthermore, as Jeroen alluded to, we aren't just talking ubers. We are talking about the majority of ppl that line MA's pocket books... those of us who do not own improved items but own some sets of neme, etc. I think MA would end up biting the hand that feeds it despite the best intentions.

Secondly- we simply do not know exactly how looting works. Nicole suggested, and rightfully so, that a reduction of decay and repair costs could directly correlate to a reduction of loot... we do not know, so it's an area that is too "slippery to walk to on" imo.

Lastly- I think the beauty of the PED is it's direct and simple 1:10 ratio to the USD. There are other ideas of adjusting the game's economy that would not so greatly disrupt the overall economy imo. While your intentions are good PJ and I appreciate the novelty and uniqueness of the idea (it's one I've never read b4) I think such an adjustment would cause wide-spread panic and more ppl would end up leaving.

As always, my

Three assumptions:

• The recent poll indicated that most players seemed to feel that they were gamers not gamblers – most are interested in loosing a some and having some fun - not making money on the game.

• The cost per-hour of play for your average (not massively skilled or lucky) player seems to be quite high in comparison with other games.

• The churn rate of new players is quite high (a lot seem to leave when they find themselves paying more than they would for other games, therefore don't get to a skill level where they don't have to pay more).

This is ok if MA would like to stick with a high income per player per hour niche market (in comparison with the other extreme of pile them in and make a small % on each player).

Sooo…I am ‘tentatively’ suggesting that MA shift the position slightly and devalue the Ped slightly. I am not suggesting a massive change, or a one of ‘big bang’ approach to change. Slow staged devaluation so that the economy could adjust. This would allow us to play for longer (cheaper decay/ cheaper amo/ bombs etc), and would, therefore, retain more players in the game. MA would still be more expensive than other games for new players, however, not prohibitively so.

MA would still make the same money (lower value per player but larger number of players = the same or increased income stream into the game).

Players experience would improve and the economy would improve (more players in the game would mean that you could sell some of the items we all tt now).

Oh …in the medium term the value of your items wouldn’t decrease…they would just dip a bit (very short term) and then stabilise as the economy adjusted.

Lots of assumptions here, however, I think the basic idea would work. Thoughts please...

One of the craziest ideas ever.
I hate money devaluation in real life and so that you know I consider it a way to steal weath from you (and without you even noticing it), but that is an other issue.

Lets make it clear

All you want is that the cost per game time is decreased right ?

I can agree with this but can't you figure a much simpler, effective, reasonable and fair way to do it ?

I can:

Just increase the loot that the players are geting for killing the same things that there are now.

See it is simple, easy and fair.
Now why does MA doesn't do it ?
Ask them

Yeah, technically a 1USD:10PED --> 1USD:20PED devaluation would be
done almost as Elisa described, except the doubled gear would be
substituted by let's say the average market price of last month.
"The average prices" could be filled in by a player counsil, when
there have not been many sales of some items during the last month.

That would not change economy at the high-end, except it would free
a lot of cash in the game. Quite likely high-end players would transfer
about 50% of their USD net worth out from the game, and would start
later pumping it back.

The change would keep more players in on the experience level just
above the noobs. Over years it could increase the player base e.g.
3-5fold. Difficult to say, there has been no price-sensitivity tests

To me this is a simple technical issue, and would be no problem, even
if I had some 10k USD in-game.
