I would say on callypso it doesn't...

I have around 500 skills in prospecting and surveying. So far i got one global (78 PEDs). I always wanted to get a robot ship. I tried everything...but i gave up mining, cause it seems i can't get anything out of it. So i thought i'll never get my own beacon.

Today evening i was standing in echidna near the revive terminal, when i saw something nearby that doesn't belong there. Running towards it i realized that it is a robot ship. Noone around except my teammate. The drones were shot by the tower. I was kind of excited so i looted it. Was waiting a bit in the case the owner shows up but noone showed up... with revive beeing about 10 running secs away...so it was for sure a noob who found it and didn't know what to do...or it just spawned without someone finding it...

Gratz..that is priceless! I, too, carry bombs MOSTLY to try and tease robot ships from the stingy soils of Calypso...but to no avail. Found one long, long ago...but none since...well done!

I would also feel a little funny about randomly finding one like this, since it was almost certainly someone else's. If you were right by revival, and nobody showed up, then obviously they weren't gonna get it, so it's just as well someone did. Luckily for you, you were somebody.

i found around 9 of them but i dont mine much
6 were found without bombs/probes dropped
but all were just peds and no beacons

Gratz. I have similar mining skills to you and haven't found one via mining yet. I have run into two in the past though - if noone's there you just gotta take. I have a theory that they just spawn randomly anyway and miners get a better chance of finding them as they can detect them from a distance...
