It has been asked before, but i dont think anyone gave a solid answer to this question yet (at least not that i can find).
Are attachments (scope+lasers) usefull on maxed out weapons? In some post i see ppl talk about getting more crit hits with attachments. In Star's hunting thread he says it's supposed to give more skill. So what does it really do? I always thought they did nothing on maxed weapon, but what Star says does make sense since you spend more decay (and more decay should mean more skill). |

Hi scopes and lasers give % to aim skill, so the higher % the more skill u gain.
using scopes & lasers dosent mean u will get aim skill every shot, but u will gain slighlty more every skill gain. and u get the extra % on both maked and un maxed weppons if u are using them ![]() Hope this helps Last edited by HC Shorty; 05-08-2008 at 21:30. Reason: forgot some thing ;) |

I find the use of scopes and lasers and little extra decay things to have the same effect as letting mobs eat at your armor for a bit before you kill them or before the timer for an event starts: It feeds them $ and fattens them up for the lootering

Well, 2 hunnirs and a jzar will add 0.286 to the cost of a p5a+a104 (13.33). So thats around 2.15% right? So should we then expect to see about a 2.15% higher increase in skill amount by using them? I suppose that can be tested.

What do you think? Well, actually I think they have same function on maxed weps as on non-maxed. But it's all guesses, not even Marco knows it seems. ![]() |

Its really difficult to test this. Quite a few very capable people have given figuring this one out a good bash and I don't think we have any conclusive answers even now. Tbh, I don't think we'll know for sure until the day MA decide to tell us what they actually do.
The only thing we know for sure is that whatever it is they do, Marco thinks that they do it on maxed SIB guns as well as normal guns. |

Yeah, testing it seem to be very hard.
You'd need 2 exactly same skilled avatars and continue skilling one with and one without attachments at the same rate. ![]() What Etopia says, can we over-max an item. That was why i first thought they would not do anything, cause max = max, so nothing to be added... I wish MA would just tell us. ![]() |

![]() I might do a test sometime and see if it produces any effect on skilling rate. When I used to hunt with amped opalo I used to used scopes & sights because I thought it gave extra skill gain. Can't remember how exactly I came to that conclusion though. Most of the research recently has been on whether or not it affects hit rate. That's quite tricky to do as outside factors can affect results and a lot of testing is required. Witte and others did quite a bit of testing a while back using a macro Witte made to log the hits and misses. Can't remember their conclusions tbh, I'll dig up the thread later. I don't think anyone has systematically looked at (and published results) whether or not skill gains are affected, but it should be fairly straightforward to test and rule out/confirm any significant skill gain effects. |
