The weird behaviour of bots at Jason, where I hunt a lot, makes it hard to accuse anyone of killstealing... you simply loose track when you're tanking 5-10bots for appropriate killspeed.
I try to keep track a little when another GD is near, and I usually take the time to hit one of the other GD's mobs if one appraches me that is not on full health. For such confusing situations, actually, theres a rule implemented in the game: The mob is yours when you do more than 50% of damage to it. I believe you cannot talk about KS in these situations. I would simply call it "crappy AI", or even: "AI that increases MA's income". ![]() Killstealing is something completely different: The guy with a high-DPS weapon that runs to a mob that i have down to maybe 55% health WHILE I AM SHOOTING AT IT, in order to save about 40% of the ammo he would have needed to kill the mob, that guy is a KSing griefer. ![]() In all other situations, I tend to think 'bad luck, but it happens to them just as often as to me'. .... i see KS as this:
- someone starts shooting a mob - another player starts shooting at the same mob with a higher dps gun and takes the loot The cases u said are not KS imo. I dont consider KS if i shoot a mob and it runs to another player ... i will try to take the mob back unless the other ava starts shooting it. |

I agree with Dreamdancer - we all know the rules and only the person who did >50% of the dmg can loot the mob.
That established I have to observe that some people's basic good manners could do with a brush-up. Personally I never deliberately attack mobs that someone else has already shot, and if I'm obliged to because that mob is attacking me I try to excuse myself to the original hunter. But then I'm just a Norfolk turnip farmer and in these parts personal reputation is still important. |

I most often am far way from others when i hunt...but if for some reason someone else is in the area I will concentrate on the one or more that are on me...if one runs off...i let it go...i usually only shoot one on me at a time...rather then give a little to each one.
If i'm out and see someone struggling i will do one of two things...take my fap out and fap him so he can finish his mobs..or ask if he needs help with killing them...i drag the bar of any animal before i shoot it...if there is any damage done i move to a different one...unless ...and here is the tricky part...the one i think who shot it is having a rough time and this mob on me is doing major damage..then i'll kill it...it's kill or be killed...I do my best to communicate with the other hunter rather then just blast away. |

Well, hunting in an area where lots of players go to can turn out to be the main reason of accusing somebody for KSing.
When my boyfriend goes out to shoot some drones for me he tells me the area is full of KSers, however I think it depends on your own style of play: I try to move so that there would be maximum distance from other players, if possible, so I don't come across ks situations too often. If a damaged mob runs to me I save it for the ava that is trying to take it down, only if one does not show up for some while I have to kill it tho to decrease my decay. Tho there has been a case when a group of players followed me on purpose, waiting until I started to damage the mob and then KSing it with a really big gun ![]() |

with the strange aggro'ing of some mobs now, unfortunately it has sometimes become necessary to let the system decide who's kill it is (i.e. 50% dmg) :|

If someone tags something and it runs at them then it's their mob.
If someone tags something and it runs at me, the instant it starts chewing on my armour (costing me ped) then its free game. I've had people tagging 5 or 6 mobs at a time and complaining that I kill one that comes for me while they are killing the others. Basically, if it costs me ped then its my kill. |

Kill stealing is, for example, when a newbie player is pewpewing a snablesnot down with his/her peashooter and some arse trots by and blasts it with their Echo.
If an avatar is engaged in combat and another avatar comes along and starts shooting at their mob and wins the loot... that, is killstealing. If an avatar shoots a mob and, due to the game engine, it turns tail and runs to the next nearest player and they kill it, that's not killstealing... that's just defending yourself. I jog about in Ghost armour... I'll be fucked if I'm going to let an Atrox Alpha chew on my arse and tally up my decay while some tit shoots it from safely afar and skips decay and bags a nice ATH... |

If I tag a mob I regard it as mine. If the stupid thing runs in the wrong direction I tag it again.
If the person it is running to shoots at it, I give up, and leave it to them, I assume they did not know I had tagged it, and as such I will appear to be KS'ing. If they don't shoot it, I carry on. This stupid behaviour might not be bad AI, it might be good AI. Imagine a Mob is standing there, minding it's own business, aware of a human a distance off (too far away to aggro it) and then out of the blue it takes damage. It runs to the only human it can see. I tagged it, but was in it's blind spot behind it. Has anyone done any research to see if the mobs that run the wrong way are "predators" which have forward facing vision (like humans) and that mobs that might be regarded as "prey" (herbivores) that probably have close to 360 degree vision run in the right direction? If this is the case, then the AI is good, as the mob is not running to a human it can't actually see, it's running to a human it can see, who happens to be the wrong human. |
