One thing I have noticed about beacons over the last year or so that I think has caused the prices to skyrocket is that most people seem to buy them as a celebatory item. What I mean by that is people are willing to cough up the high price cuz they want to celebrate so and so's birthday or welcome someone new to the soc or a person in the soc gets a large hof or ATH so they buy a beacon for the soc to celebrate it. When purchases are made in this fashion there is no regard for cost, especially in the last example. As long as someone pays the high prices people will list them for the high prices and from what I can see on the auction people are paying so don't expect the prices to drop anytime soon no matter how much you lose on the run itself. Our soc has reduced our beacon runs to ones looted by members willing to run it rather than sell it. I have to admit I miss doing beacons a few times a week and unfortunately since we have a small soc we don't get many opportunities to run them anymore, but at least we are not losing peds on each run. No matter how you slice it up--constantly losing peds is no fun in the end.

Beacons are definitely loads of fun... Some of my fondest memories are on Beacons with all my old soc mates.

As far as my memory serves, they were always pretty expensive to run apart from the odd time when you got lucky. Nonetheless, a big chance of losing out.

It's surprising, given the number of free MMOs around, and quality ones at that, quite how much people are willing to pay for this fairly basic (and very repetitive) dungeon sequence which has been around in EU for years.

If the numbers quoted here are true, and that beacons are around 223 PED, plus 6 - 8 players each burning 60 PED, that's potentially $70 for an hours fun.

Might not sound like daylight robbery, but it's a lot of cash for not very much. I think you really have to enjoy beacons to bother with em at this price.

I noticed the price for beacons go up around the time or just after the warlocks were appearing on the 23ped beacons. I attributed it to the thinking that maybe the loot was going to get better. But it appears the loot has not abd the price stayed high. I have looted alot of them but not recently. And unfortunately the last one I looted and had saved for my soc, which was in fact refunded by MA due to the warlock issue I had to sell becuase all my other my "fun" had been costing me so much. I have`nt seen a beacon in a while and I think the next ones i get will just be sold instead of played out. Too costly a gamble for me these days.

Personally I think this has something to do with the Flare filter and Power amp markups. Flares were worth 900-1k % and Power amps around 800%, then we broke even most of the times, now Flares dropped to 600-700% and Power Amps to 500-600%, so that's around 10 ped less for each than earlier, which migth have influenced this loot gap, since those items are 50% of all beacon loot.

Beacon

Actually there are 3 things that influenced the price of beacons...

First there was the loot change that saw the addition of robot components that were needed for crafting...the crafters were paying high % for all beacon looted components....esp flare filters and power amps.

Then came the first of the 2 hof beacons that I know of. 23 pedder went off like a firecracker during the ORB event at Hades. This got the price of beacons up as everyone wants a hoffing beacon

Shortly after that was the warlock bug which had people buying every beacon on auction only to find that warlocks were on only 23's.
(Yes I am guilty..we ran about 15 beacons with warlocks)

And of course to seal the deal there was another HOF beacon recently.

The sad part is that we do so love the team spirit that goes with a beacon run but MA seem to forget just how many of us there are and dont supply anywhere near enough.....
I havent run a 39 pedder in about 2yrs that is the last time I saw one.
And has anyone Looted a 42 since mine was run....(if yes is it for sale)

MA please drop more of the challenging size beacons for addicts like me

I was the hoster of that 23 pedder that had 5400 ped loot during that event , but people should know it's a one in a long time thing. Those warlocks got many ubers buying 23 pedders and even if it did increase the price it doesn't explain why loot dropped from 250-350 average to 150-200.

Beacon

The whole loot thing is something I have watched over and over....

I have run so many beacons and they do have up and down loot cycles like everything.....those hofs and globals have to come from somewhere.

Now I will tell you a little something interesting i noticed while running the warlock beacons...

Because at first people were dying and failing the missions the loot on the first few was up.
By the time people knew only to run the 23's if you could kill warlocks the fails stopped and the loot was nothing special.

We had one of the 23's that had 7 warlocks on the Red Floor.

And the loot sucked.

With the sharing of information between society members and friends and people on EF running a beacon is now much easier than it was so there are less and less missions that fail or miss boxes.

Therefore you have to just hope that the loot pool is in your favour like everything else in EU.

The bulk of the cost of running a beacon is in the purchase of the beacon...
Lets break that down for you...

MA creates 23 ped beacon....

with a 5 man team unless you are really uneco it should only cost about 25ped per person in ammo (5 man team)

so the loot pool as consumed 23 ped for the beacon and 125ped of ammo or there abouts.....

the average 23 pedder loots around 180 to 200ped before %

so if you have paid 200 ped for the beacon then you can expect to have a loss at the end of many 23's.

Yes, but when noone sells for less than 200 it's not so good, especially when we beacon addicts can't live a week without doing a few , so sellers are using that to blow the price up
