Miner turned to the dark side

Hey all.

I have been a miner for more than 3 years, doing some hunting from side only.

I recently invested some money in EU and bought Jaguar set w/o feet. Soon after that investment i hit a mining hof of 2,7k duru. Before that i had had some real good mining. And a couple of days after that aswell. Then something really bad happened: i unlocked CGA... and everything turned to worse. I lost 4k mining in a month (I dont play too often). Have went through at least 50 OA103 with only 3-4 globals. Loss was clear.

Now - after all these bad runs. I've decided to turn to the dark side - yes - hunting. Im selling some irrelevant skills here: Skill sale

Since I have Jaguar I wanna take the most of it and hunt big stuff. pvp2 troxes, hogs, CP etc.

but since i've used only korss for protection, i need some skills to get better guns for higher dam/sec. Ive decided to try out apis+tac70 or beast or dante (if i can borrow it). Fortunately i only need about 18 ped chip of rifle skills to max apis. Will get that from my brothers avatar.

I will try and record the results of my journey to the dark side in this thread.

All in all:
Gear: Jaguar + 8a(L) and 6a. Apis + amp (to be acquired). Ek-2600.

Mission: Have fun

Note: I have always lost at least twice as much on hunting than from mining. I never learn

Gratz on your unlock, altough I have to say that it took you quite long...
And my opinion on your project is that you make big mistake. CGA is level 12.5. Means that you are above this level, so probably somewhere near lev 15 in Prospector now. Using OA103 with your skills is pure gambling. You asked for your losses. This is my opinion, more experienced miners can do not agree with me, but personally I think that all gear (including amps) needs higher skills to be used efficiently that Item Info says. I dunno, maybe you were bound to loose that much no matter what gear you used. I have seen strange things happening and big losses around during several few months, so everything's possible. But I think you started using to strong gear for your skills. Maybe you should try to experiment a bit, for example without amps (all my mining hofs were unamped, altough I'm not any uber miner, I had just a few of them (about 10, rather smalish ones)) or with various seekers.
And now you are willing to throw yourself into another gambling: big mobs. Yes, you can do hogs with your current gear and skills probably, but if you start doing big mobs on regular basis, imho you will loose as fast as you did with mining. Try something smaller, and from time to time gamble on big ones, and you may get better results.
Another mistake in my opinion is selling your skills. Unless you really can't go on without selling them, like depo for your hunting experiment. Who knows, maybe you will need your mining skills again. Whenever I even think about parting with any of my skills, my heart hurts...

Maybe i forgot to mention that during the 3 years, ive skilled up to 2000-2500 prosp 3 times. Every time unlocked cga aswell. Every time after unlocking cga ive been doing so bad that ive had to sell out skills (i consider myself a non-depositor still).

This time, before cga, before i maxed tk120, i had good mining with oa103.. exactly the same gear like after cga. I switched between tk120 and z20, different amps, different areas (high value rarer vs common ore areas). Basically Ive tried everything.

Ive only had profit from hunting in this period. And hunting big prey is FUN. I cant get myself to hunt small feffs all day. I fall asleep.

And.. if hunting makes me broke, i can always sell some hunting skills and return to mining.

Get 5b plates for even more protection against atrox and hogs.
Isis HL8 or 11 is a nice choice with better decay then Apis if u stick with handgun

Yes. I have unlocked CGA recently and see, I got my second vast after that as well. I just simply DID NOT CHANGE GEAR. You said, tik120... well, I tried it and all I can say is that with skills I have for now, I can at best find enough rare ores to pay for the extra markup. Otherwise loss. Imho that is the main fault not CGA. It just happens that after around the CGA lavel, players can start using finders whose markup is gradually larger..

..like, see PkmX's mining thread. He uses oa-103 and high end finders but he has MS and fine skills for it. And he can find much more/rarer ores with those tools.

Gl, subscribing. Btw how much peds are you gonna waste for the hunt as maximum loss limit..?
