One of my strategies to help offset costs is to periodically sell skills I gain from hunting. I'm a Level 11 Laser Sniper, but I have discovered melee skills like Shortblades and other secondary melee skills sell for a lot more than laser or BLP. I have been studying a lot of data and prices, and it seems melee and ranged combat economy, at least looking at only weapons, are similar. Is melee somehow more expensive, to the point I'd make more sticking to BLP? Shortblade fighting doesn't seem to boost construction skills like the ranged things do, so maybe I'm off in my calculations. Am I better off training with shortblades, or sticking with BLP?

Keep in mind markup.
Markup on a Korss is very small because you only decay about 1 PEC per hit, most of the damage is done by ammo burn, so 150% isn't bad. For melee, I wouldn't go above 105%, because ALL the damage is decay, and therefore has markup. If you go for unL weapons, then you're going into bad eco unless it is unL SIB. Also keep in mind, guns can be amped to boost economy, melee can not. |

I'm disappointed there hasn't been more replies, especially since this is the weekend...
Anyway, I calculated what kind of profit I'd make from selling skills using several weapons types, disregarding all other factors. I don't know how I knew to do this, but, I took the markup of each skil, subtracted the average street markup of ESIs, then multiplied it by the skill contribution to professions (divided by 100, of course, since they seem to be percentages) listed on Entropedia. Here is what I came up with: Laser Carbine Hit 46 29 37 68 72 42 46 585 98 Damage 92 47 187 140 (105) TOTAL: 1,489 (1,594) Laser Pistol Hit 44 27 570 31 72 98 72 42 44 Damage 92 47 187 140 (105) TOTAL: 1,466 (1,571) BLP Rifle Hit 46 29 37 68 72 42 46 585 175 Damage 92 47 312 140 (105) TOTAL: 1,691 (1,796) BLP Pistol Hit 44 27 570 31 72 168 72 42 44 Damage 92 47 312 140 (105) TOTAL: 1,661 (1,766) Support Hit 46 29 37 68 72 42 46 3,588 588 Damage 92 37 1,428 126 (105) TOTAL: 6,199 (6,304) Shortblades Hit 45 329 396 950 392 96 30 44 (434) Damage 150 255 (238) 625 140 TOTAL: 3,452 (4,124) |

Skill Markup (based on Peauction)
Dodge = 12,740.3% Evade = 6,915.36% Handgun = 2,010.22% Rifle = 2,261.96 BLP Weaponry Technology = 1,733.11% Laser Weaponry Technology = 1,245.23% The choice is clear. Use BLP rifle to hunt bots, and 100% electric mobs. The value of your skills will far outweigh folks who hunt typical mobs with laser handguns. Actually, Plasma and Explosives weaponry tech is even more markup, but there are no decent weapons in those categories you could use on a daily basis. Good luck and happy hoffing. |

Also remember that there is resellers market and real market. Before taking the plunge into thinking a skill sells truly for XXX, take note of the volume of sales and their trend. ALso quote where your figures come from. Well, you are assuming you can skill dodge at the same cost and speed as evade. |
