Hey guys,
A quick intro. I'm new to the game, only been playing 4 days or so, decided to drop about $30 into it to try it out. I decided I wanted to focus on hunting for now, specifically with melee. I did some reading on the forums, and based on feedback, decided to start off with the TT 2-handed sword. It was an ok weapon, but way too slow. I shortly thereafter invested in about 3 1X0 axes, which work much better. My current longblades skill is in the low 300's, and my swordsman profession is Green rank, level 1. At this point, I can kill the beginning stuff pretty easily, the combibo, the small tameable animals, the small birds too. I start getting my ass whooped when I take out those mollisk runts though, very annoying critters. Alright, all that being said, I'm pretty lost as of right now. I have no idea if I'm going in the right direction or not. I have no idea what kind of creatures I should be hunting, what would help me level quicker, all that stuff. Infact, how long does it take to level up to the few thousands in longblades like you guys are at? I get to play about 2 hours or so about 5 days a week, how long do you guys think it'll be before I can handle myself pretty effectively as a hunter? I'd like to be able to hunt melee while being able to skill up well, I'm just not sure I understand how. I've also noticed that the axes break waaayy tooo quickly. I'm not playing this game to make money, but ideally I'd like to atleast come close to breaking even with the spoils of hunting, how viable is this? Any hints would be greatly appreciated. I've already read pretty much all of the guides and tutorials. Either the questions I'm asking are beyond the scope of the guides, or I'm just slow and missing something.... |

I would suggest using both the TT longblade and shortblade until you get Hit Ability of 10/10 on each of them.. that will be your most cost effective route.. as the skills from both help in melee.
as for critters.. what armor you sporting?. - ; ) |

i did exactly as u did but upgraded to axe 2xo and passed graduation in abut 3 weeks using roughly ythe same time scale as u (2hrs a night 5 nights a week) but what i did was to team up with a fellow hunter who was skilling on rifle so he tagged em and i finished em using my axe i found that with this method we could cope with most low level mobs hope this helps

This is basically an age-old problem.
You should choose the TT longblade until you get up to a nice level of LB skill, e.g. 5000. This is the most cost-effective method. If you haven't got the patience you should perhaps go with the Axe 2x0 - or anything you like! |

0-1000= TT Longblade+Axe 1x0
1000-2500= Axe 2x0 2500+= Katsuichi Determination This might work... I got my Katsuichi earlier (on 1800 LB ) but I don't mind depo'ing. Currently on 4.9k lb and able to say the Katsuichi is a LOVELY weapon for killing and skilling. ('Trox Dominants dead, even with worn-out armour )Hurrikane |

Thanks a lot for the quick replies. I think I'm gonna go with the axe 1X0 for now, and switch to the 2X0 once i hit 1000. As for the armor Nihilist, I'm just wearing a few pieces of the pixie set, so I think that answers that question, lol...
So you guys think it'd take a few weeks to max out on long blades, eh? That's not too bad. One question though: Is there some sort of in-game bestiary? Like, a menu option that would let me see a description of a mob, and what type of damage it does? That would be pretty cool with picking out an armor. Thanks again for your help! |

I skill on longblade and rifle at the same time, I do most of the damage with a rifle and then kill with the 1 or 2 hits with a bladed weapon. By using both for the kill I got skill for the rifle and blade but get extra skill on both when I make the kill. I'm still using this approach now.
So far my longblade skill is in the 2200 range, shortblade about 1500 and rifle 3300. |

I skilled LB until 6500 and then quit, if you are after total skill use rifle och handgun otherwise stay with what you are doing. Use axe 2.0 and tt blade until you max it out. Otherwise Im not telling you any news that the others havent told you.
At the moment Im chipping out but if you want we can meet sometime in service and add eachother to FL. Just PM me. |
