Battle for LG 04 - A spectator's view

Headed out to the party with Socmates Jod and Haffe, and Xaph from Global Alliance.

Stopped at the nearby Formidon LA on the way, raking in 5 globals and a HOF under the name "pwning the LG with Opallos"

Got to the revive, where it was already pretty busy. Many players reviving, many people asking for coords of the Land Marker, MA representatives, sweat sellers.

Made a jump to the battle zone, and landed in the middle of a storm. Was about 20 M from the marker, and sat down immediately, hoping not to be toasted. Felt like a rabbit on a 6 lane freeway, waiting for the traffic to thin but knowing there was a convoy of trucks going in all directions around me.

Finally stood up and walked (didn't run!) coolly to the Fert station, expecting death and ducking shots from every direction.

Arrived safely and sat my unarmoured noob ass down to watch the event unfold.

M2S were in control. They appeared to be fending off random avatars :perhaps people who had decided to go along and fire off a few shots, so they could tell the grandkids they went to the LG and had a ping at the ubers, before being blasted into next week. The term "bodies flying" took on a new meaning as people somersaulted from Rocket shots.

It was a chaotic scene, many dead on the field but no problem for the Avatars holding the marker. A few laughs, a bit of joking chat,a chance for the participants to warm up. And they needed it..

Suddenly, green dots start appearing on the radar, making a beeline for the marker. Art of War had arrived, and they meant business. Volleys of rockets sailed into the marker and it's defenders. Health bars began to decrease, and some turned red.

The battle raged for an hour or so. It was hard to see who was doing what, but it appeared to be: M2S ,Stormer and various friends Vs AoW, BAHQ, Shaolin, cK and various friends. This is how it appeared to me, apologies if any of this is wrong.

M2S held them all off. A couple of times the marker started to blink, indicating it was vulnerable to takeover, but it was recaptured quickly.

As quickly as they arrived, AoW disappeared. Word spread that they were at the Warants LA, and chat showed various Warants and Dark Knights succumbing after a streak.

The contest continued along, but the defenders where never seriously challenged. Various people came and went during the LG, probably coming home/leaving from work. Knuckles did his best LEEEEROOY JENKINS impersonation.


Laughter and chat began again. From the spectator hill at the Fert Station, people were trying to sell Super L faps, and even hotdogs at one stage! Occasionally spectators would try and snipe the participants from our vantage point. Obviously we didn't want any fire attracted to us non-combatants.

The situation was dealt with by one guy who warned, and then blasted any transgressors. May have been jak from Dawn Daemons, don't remember, but he did a good job as Security for the hill.

Socmates Spooky and Timmy arrived to check the action. Spooky was looking for hotdogs, and Timmy for a T-shirt, but they were all sold out at that stage.

The event was nearly over. M2S looking pretty comfortable, with about 15 min to go. MA avatars were checking various things, responding to questions from the players.

Just when it all looked finished , all hell broke loose. Green dots appeared on the horizon. Salvoes of rockets rained onto the defenders. AoW were back, with Warants in tow!

Health bars started to take serious hits. Star, Liga, Metatron, Shitkicker all dead!! The situation looked lost.



Somehow, SKULL, Naomi and the rest of the crew managed to fend off the attackers until reinforcements arrived. M2S had won!!

What was the deciding factor? It would have to be Jenna Star Mercury, the M2S General. He only died twice, and one time it was to Skalman and the virtually unbeatable Stoikow Rifle. He was everywhere, marshalling the troops and organising the defence. It seemed evertime he registered a kill, it was with a different Uber weapon.

A great event, and worth staying up until 4 AM for.

it was great having the spectator embankment and all the participants pretty much chose to leave us in peice, though they did use us for cover on a few occasions

For the past couple months I had been having serious issues with my Internet connection and lag (I'm forced to play on a wireless connection now). I was barely able to PK at all and I lost more than I normally would hunting during that time. Surprisingly, I was still able to be at least somewhat effective for the LG test, although the lag for me was insane. After the event ended I headed out and bought an expensive wireless N network card that would supposedly boost my speed by 12x and my range and signal strength by 4x. Even without a wireless N router (currently still connecting to a wireless G) my signal was much stronger and my lag was gone!

To test this new lagless connection I went to the rig and ripped through some Atrox. Barely missed any shots, lots of globals... It was better than sex. A couple of players in infiltrator/hermes/rutuba/etc decided to try to take me out while I had two AOAs on me (and my 5B hunting armor). After sending them both back to the revival they made a few more attempts to TP back and get me, without success.

Those of you that have PKed with me or hunted with me know that I have been sloppy for the past few months because of the lag... But now it's gone.

Bring on the LG! I'll be able to *successfully* PK once again!

Sorry mate, it was hard to tell from a noob's perspective what was going on, and sometimes impossible to drag health bars. You must have been moving too quick!!

Besides, I'd had too many hotdogs by that stage.
