Welcome Ed3 and Berny ... I think the one thing that this community cries for more than anything else (except maybe reduced lag and better loot) is more communication and interaction with the player base, so your self-introductions and disclosed information (what you could) is most welcome indeed. It gives a greater level of understanding (instead of total secrecy), and creates more excitement about the possibilities. PR and interaction with the player base is absolutely crucial in player retention and involvement in this virtual universe, and I for one welcome your style with much respect.

Just to get back to the thread rather than discuss computer upgrades, has anyone thought this statement through.

Consider, MA seem now to be in the business of marketing virtual world platforms. Buy a basic system, build it as you will - a Chinese virtual mall for RL products maybe a game world (as are new contributors seem to be proposing).

Now, anyone building a virtual world with a cash economy will wish to be in control of the economics. That means understanding the dynamics of the economy and retaining cash value within the economy.

Having people move between the worlds challenges both. Our new friends want a cohesive universe, that must be both plot line/genre and economy. having to build an economy which also accepts items with a totally different economic biase will cause endless problems, just witness how much anguish we have whenever the advantages of pre-gold, post gold, post VU.xx players is spun out in this forum.

Consider also if one of us moves between planets we will almost certainly be creating a real cash balancing problem between the planet owners, MA will lose real value (and have to transfer real cash) to a "planet" where a Skalman or Neomavin moves since that is where it will be withdrawn from.

Oh of course there could be some overall economy but does that really sound a practical proposition between companies trying to grind out the maximum profit.

MA are not building a Universe for our benefit. They are building a Universe for their profit. That fine, thats business just don't hold out hopes.

Your looking at the system from the point of view that all your Ped expediture is wholey revenue to MA and the new company works the same. Income is from decay, therefore decay on items in the new planets goes to the new company and MA (how they arrange that split is up to them). There is only one deposit/withdrawal interface via MA, regardless of which planet the users are on.

So CKI builds the economy of their planet around this. they can control things by deciding what carries over from the exsiting world and what is new and unqiue to their world. they might decide that oil doesnt exist there, so its not in the ground and is worthless since the local machines dont work with BP that use oil. There might be mobs that are immune to burn damage, so lasers are next to useless there, you need locally produced electric weapons.

On the other hand they might allow all existing euqipment to be fully functional, and MA reciprocates with their new items. I dont expect this to happen, as you say they will probably want control over their local economy and dynamics, so believe there will be many things "nerf'd" when moving them between planets. What i do expect is that skills, at least general and neutral skills (HP, evade, first aid, engineering) will transfer as they are part of you the avatar and semi-independent of the world and its economy.

I think the company will pay a fixed license fee to MA. Then any decay will be their revenue.
