I think you are unfairly oversimplifying by characterising anyone who does not already own a Gold Card as "stupid".

In any case, the fact remains that this new initiative by Mindark is a benefits ALL of us in the Entropia community, not just those who qualify for a complimentary Gold Card.

Really not sure why people with gold cards have an issue with this... Had mine over a year now and look at it as insurance policy against bad things happening to my avi - that kind of peace of mind is worth way more than 200ped

Anyone who values there avi regardless of its "worth" should already have a gold card - to be pretty blunt if they haven't then they should consider themselves lucky not to have been hacked etc. and not kick off when it inevitably does happen....

If MA choose to give them away to avi's with 5k ped depo then that cant be a bad thing, as others have said we'll all gain from the knock on security gains.

first off, you'll notice i qualified the statement with ">5000 ped" ... second, i can only assume, now, that you consider it smart to have > 500 USD invested somewhere, and not protect it w/an additional 20 USD?

i did NOT state that in advance ... there were plenty of posts before I made that statement, and i disagreed with them, as i do with yours

Yes it's great that MA offers GC for free BUT it's not like ppl did not know they are at risk as everybody keeps telling them since ages so if you take the risk stand for it!
And it is somehow a slap in the face to those who payed for it - no problem with the 200ped as i would lose them quite fast in EU anyway but it still is a strange way to handle longtime customers that take care about their security

I just hope that new players who are registering in the future also get to see a messege saying that they are eligible for a free GC if they ever deposit 5000 peds.

As long as this is an ongoing thing and not a one-off offer, this will be a very good thing.

I must say this is really funny.. ppl have been complaining a lot about scams lately.. and I personally didnt expect MA to do somethign about it. When they finally do something we aint happy about that either.. Its true that maybe they do this kinda late, but they only do it because of us complaining in here I think.. so I think they are somehow thinking atm "If we dont do anything they complain about it, if we actually do somethign about it they keep complaining.."
I dunno its not fair, lets just be happy for those who wont get scammed because of this initiative better¿?

i applaud this effort. and yes, i was one of the 'idiots' that didn't have a gold card until this initiative. i hadn't put in more than $20 a month until i purchased my store, annd ever since then i have been keeping my ped balance close to nothing but loot for sale. i didn't have an extra ped to spend on a card. i still don't. but now i have a gold card. i never felt that insecure as i keep my pc clean and avoid bad internet choices. but i think in the long run this will be a big improvement.

i can tell you my reason. nothing else i have on the net requires this level of security and i have plenty of money in multiple places, stocks, bank accounts, etc. they all seem able to prevent problems without spending an extra $20. my banks both have unique ways of preventing keyloggers that don't cost anything or require additional hardware.

i also was concerned about creating an additional barrior from allowing me into entropia. if for some reason my goldcard failed and i was unable to make it into the game when i want to, i know i'd be uspet.

no honey the problem is not that.

its that they are giving something away for free that some people paid for and not making anything available to the people that paid..

so they are rewarding those people that put in over 500USD but also lacked the forethought to purchase a gold card. while not rewarding those that put in over 500USD AND had the forethought to purchase a gold card.

so paying customers are now going to feel slightly jaded

its not really about complaining.. its about fairness.

It is only fair that my 500USD deposits get me the same thing its getting everyone else.
