There are three cases:
First thing is what I call "freak disconnects". In this case, you can (re)logon immediately, (fap and) continue shooting at the mob that was in front of you.

Second case is when server dies. Typically, at first relog nothing will happen for a minute or two. At second relog attempt "your avatar is currently logged on", and on the third try you get in.
Variation of second case (rare occurances): You get a popup giving the option to select another server.

Third case, even more rarer, is when there is a red warning message telling "server will go down for maintenance in X minutes". Now if you get disconnected, you know why. (I usually try to TP to another place far away or log out - I got the supersticion that if I disconnect too fast/get disconnected, skills won't be saved lol)
