Hi,
no idea if this event has found an end yet, but announcing "Simon, dem Führer" in german is very bad taste. "Der Führer" was Adolf Hitler, and I'm very sure poor Simon is way away from such a comparison. Either translate correctly, or don't translate at all! Have fun! |

Actually "Führer" is a noun meaning "leader" in the German language. It is mainly used in English and third languages as the term for Nazi Germany's totalitarian ruler Adolf Hitler. And if u get the words meaning offending thats your problem so to speak.
Germans use that word for leader. Although some would say it has some weird ring to it (though not when used as meaning guide) its still a word invented long before Adolf. It would be same as someone would say Bush and we would all get a picture of some incapable man or something (and often we do :P). Pure bullshit. Same thing goes for puta or whatever that spanish ppl are offended by but somewhere nonspanish it doesnt mean much. Relax and dont view everything only from your point of view. Back on topic: When will they update login screen message? I would assume they will at least tell ppl that Emma was found. Last edited by Skorpijon; 05-13-2008 at 13:51. Hi,
Quote:
"Simon der Führer" will be read by any German as an obvious allusion to Adolf. "Führen" as "to lead", "to command", "to direct" etc. is common usage, but this use would be inevitably re-translated to "Simon the Fuehrer". No doubt at all. Have fun! |
