I started to read the 1st posts and if you want to place a STEADY banner, the following sites WONT show it for sure

www.heise.de (as mentioned by Bear)
www.golem.de

A "new entry" in the news section will work, but the sites above are IT news for professionals.

Its true heise was reporting on Entropia, so did the german "Spiegel.de" and "Stern.de". But these sites are not going to show steady banner ads on the main page for a mmorpg.

Mentioned was mmorpg.org and I guess you already know its no longer up and for sale (5500$ current offer)

As a webdeveloper myself, and having spent more than $20k/mo on adwords/yahoo(overture) and msn, I would definitely say go with advertising with google, especially their content network system.

Here's why: Cost-to-Conversion is much higher on google's content network.

Instead of wasting A LOT of money on the major gaming networks (their CPC/CPM is grossly inflated), advertise on gaming forums, poker forums, etc via google adwords. The cost is VERY low, the setup is extremely easy, and the best part is the conversion is INSANE!

Several gaming companies advertise via google.

To name a few:
Dungeons and Dragons online
Maplestory

ok a couple.. but i those are the only ones that come to mind.

I think it could be a good idea to target not only mmorpg players, but gamers in general. My suggestion is HeavenGames. They host a large number of popular forums, mainly for strategy games and city builders.

The other sites you don't know are sites well known to me though. Not those mag sites but the gaming site mentioned a page or two earlier. The mags i know but neva go there.

As for kids wanting to make a quick buck, EU is far from a quick buck unless you scam arround of have really good contacts. I think a more adult audience would be better as there is a bigger chance for a bigger investment into their avatar and therefor a bigger chance they will stick arround. Thats my guess. Besides, I would feel guilty if students cant afford they school cause they deposited their money in EU with the hope to make a bit of cash.

my point was with college kids... they have a lot of time on their hands... and buy lots of video games... new video games = 50 usd... and well thats a nice start for a lot of people in PE...

125,000,000 people on myspace.com.... say the ads effect 1% of them....
thats another 1,250,000 people who could join PE... not to mention the 50$ spent in a game... thats well over 50mil dollars and bumps PE well over the million person mark....

i would take that over maybe 10 people who have the posibility of depoing 1 million usd... and i am sure MA would too... so your point if void...

As the Entropia Universe receives more and more publicity around the world, it is becoming increasingly difficult for MindArk to be present at the many possible occasions that now exist to promote the Entropia Universe.

For that reason we are always pleased when participants and fans act as ambassadors for the Entropia Universe at trade fares, gaming conventions and situations of the sort.

Interesting that no one has mentioned using the AOL way of doing things. Yes one did mention to get it placed on new systems BUT how about this...

Everyting I go into Walmart, Best Buy, CompUSA ect here in the states what do I see. A disk for FREE AOL access for "X" amount of time. How about EU makes a bunch of these and does the same. Have the Mega stores here in the US help you out by placing them next to the AOL ones or in the electronics section. Put them in gaming and electronics magazines as well as other ones that gamers tend to buy. I mean they only cost pennies to make and it sure beats trying to wait 1 to 2 hours to download the game.
