Would be nice to get answers to, with these among them. I guess the first one is whether MA will be using the PhysX engine during or even after the transition to CryEngine. Most engines are made to work with external physics libraries, and MA has finally gotten the tuning "satisfactory" on their PhysX code...are they going to change again?

I hope you'll share with us some more technical details from the developing team soon, Marco. It would give us an idea what to expect and also is of great interest simply from a developing standpoint.
On that note, given that CryEngine seems to have its own phisics-related libraries, would MA abandon Ageia's PhysX?
And if so, what about the (really few, I hope) ones that got a PhysX card hoping to solve or lessen their rubberbanding problems?

Today I went to COMPUTEX hold at Taipei, because one of my friend is working in EATW (EA Taiwan) so I got the opportunity to be first non-EATW employee to play Crysis , which uses Cryengine 2.

The system setup was:
CPU: Intel Q6600
Ram: 4GB DDR2-667
Graphics Card: 8800GTX
Motherboard: Not mentioned (or I forgot lol)

It's running with steady 30+ fps with all settings set to very high, OS is vista.

The engine is powerful, but it doesn't seem to be very stable yet, actually it crashed right after 5 minutes I played , all the plants were destroyable, also buildings, day/night changing and I'm really surprised when you leave water you can actually see some drips falls on your screen, really impressive!!

Might give you some ideas how good your computer needs.

only 30fps with that hardware .... ive read elsewhere that this is a problem and its not clear if its Vista or the engine, but Crysis is very resource intensive at this point. Ive read into most reports the problems are early development teething issues, but its starting to look like its simply does too much. bear in mind that CryEngine started life a reference/demonstration engine.

Good and bad

I think/know that this engine is very, very, very good, but I also think/know that my computer is very, very, very much not good enough for it, so I hhope they keep a very scaled down version for people like me with computers made from chains and cogs.

I also wonder if PhysX will be canceled or used for the CPU intensive calculating of "special gadgets"... then again CryEngine2 can do liquid animations as well...and PhysX would become useless...

Crytek developers said PhysX is an adventurous piece of hardware and will not be supported.

Wonder what Mindark has in their minds...

Er, that was my point, already.

MA has a certain history of trendiness; it wouldn't surprise me for them to dump PhysX (New Oxford, Taming, Egg storylines, etc....) now that it has played out as much as possible for publicity and is a waning star.

From what i've seen, it appears that CryEngine provides a very complete 'world management system' and it would probably be best for MA to fully transition to allow the engine to manage everything possible and remove the burden from them. The primary risk of this is finding that something just won't do what it needs to, and that's when the ugly hacks start -- or, hopefully, the CryEngine gets a feature added to support a possibly very high-profile new user.

Apparently the release of Crysis has been put back to November , hopefully not engine releated which is going to have knock-on effect on EU I'm guessing 2009 release in light of this new information though

In the clip I saw it said "Available now" so I think the enigine is ready to use for other developers already.
