uhmm... Is it just me that thinks this will end up beeing very confuesing ?
We all communicate in English ingame (well for most parts) and we all reffer to SC (service center) TP teleporter ect. Everything has slag, short terms and so forth.. that will be easy for newcommers with spanish installed to figure out when they ask me or anyone else whom isnt spanish to explain them sumthing ...Not sure I believe it is good that we encourage people to stick to their nationale language tbh, will split people up alot more than how it is now. Or am I missing sumthing ?... pretty sure I would be confused haveing it installed in my nationale language and then getting answers from other players in english ![]() Maybe we should focus on getting some more footguards dropped. |

That's an excellent point, you know!
![]() It would be rather confusing. But, there are already many Latinos and French who arrive every day and who have to cope with English controls. They're the typical kind of new comers who simply won't stop bellowing: "¿Alguien habla español?" "¿Algun latino por aqui?" "Y a quelqu'un qui parle Francais?" "Je cherche quelqu'un qui vit en France / au Quebec" They look so helpless. ![]() But, I agree, they should learn English, the lazy ones! It's a basic need! ![]() Or at least, properly express themselves in English. It's common politeness! ![]() |

Hi,
Quote:
Not because it would be a beautiful language, not because the native speakers would be of more importance - only because it's a very simple language, very fast to learn enough to be able to communicate, and teched in many countries as one of the first foreign languages. Wherever in this world ppl from different countries are meeting chances are very high they'll use English to understand each other. It would be very frustrating for most of us seeing the chat cluttered up into an Babylonian confusion of languages, as we know it from some other games! At the moment the English client works as kind of "filter" that encourages the usage of the English language, and discourages people not able or willing to use this "least common denominator" language. I understand MA wants to draw in as many people as possible, but offering language specific clients might be, in my humble opinion, a grave mistake that had the potential to destroy a lot of atmosphere in the EU. Have fun! PS: I'm no native English speaker myself, but I'd never use an German client, and I refuse to type German in game besides maybe private chat. And when I tested a game that maybe one day might become a competitor for EU the thing that bothered me most was the Babylonian chaos in chat - I'd like to provide a screenshot to demonstrate, but I guess this would get me tared and feathered ... ;-) |

To tell you the truth, there's already Babylonian babble in EU.
Once, I was chatting with a French friend (in French) while a society was using Tcheck and a couple of strangers were discussing in German. And then there was this Portuguese guy who started asking for someone. Hours afterward, a guy I know from Entropia Latina passed by to say "¡Hola! ¿Cómo te va?" I mean, you can't help but become a polyglot here! ![]() HOWEVER, a common language is essential. Entropians are already divided as it is (time and geographical differences, opinions, age, experience, etc). Language specific clients could be more comfortable for lazy players. But, it wouldn't give the right impression to outsiders. ![]() Whether MA restricts or not their clients to a single language, it won't really matter. People from all over the world will keep coming. And you can bet whatever you want that many of them won't know how to properly write / speak English. And they will certainly use other languages to communicate if it suits them or their interlocutors. I, for one, speak French if I'm chatting with people from France, Belgium of Quebec. Or Spanish, if it's people from Latin America or Spain. Most of the time, the conversation becomes tiring and even unintelligible if done otherwise! ![]() But, when it comes to important / official / multinational affairs... English becomes my diplomatic tongue, obviously! ![]() Last edited by desg90; 01-22-2008 at 08:51. |
