Is there a "How To" guide for learning to use a TP Chip?

Hello all!

So, I looked at the tutorial section and found some basic information on chip implants... there is even a small paragraph about TP chips. I even did a thread search, and didn't find anything.

My question is, what is the best way to get started on this? What is the best equipment to purchase, about how much will it cost, and where should I obtain it? Is there quite a bit of decay when using a TP chip? Can it be repaired? How much (if any) ME does it use? Is it even really worth getting?

Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance for your time!

lesser tp chip you can get for close to TT price.
Then you need an implant, cheapest available will do, and an implanter.
decay on implanter is a bit over 2 ped I think, one time cost for inserting the implant.
After you've used it, you can sell back the implanter to the TT.

then you just equip the chip as any equipment, and use it.

Main cost will be mind essence, 9 for each hop. decay is very low on the chip and implant.

Well basically you insert the chip, get some ME and you're set.
You can get TP Chips from auction or try and loot one yourself.
They can be repaired, you can see the rest on Entropedia here:

Ok guys, thanks for responding so quickly...

It is best to start off on the lowest end of the equipment scale (implant and chip), or is it better to spend a little more and get mid-level items?

It's best to start at the bottom with a lessor chip.

When you TP your chance of arriving at the chosen destination is dependant on your skill level. There is nothing to stop you getting a really good chip, but it will not take you where you want to go most of the time, so you will be wasting your time and ME (And peds).
A level 3 chip (medium) is going to cost in excess of 3.3k peds, and will not take you where you want to go for some time to come. Get a level 1 (lessor) chip, at around 20-25 peds, max.

With no skills it's best to stick to the Lesser TP chip.

If you were to start with the Minor or Medium, you will rarely jump to where you want to go.

The Implant is another thing. You can use the one from the TT for the Lesser chip, but it will only allow you to use level I to III chips. It's unlikely you will use a TP chip higher than III, but if you were to use a bigger heal chip, focus chip or nerve blast/firestorm chip, you will need a bigger implant.

The Bd Implant is the best one available and lets you use any chip. It is however, quite expensive.

if i were you i'd go with the Aa implant - fairly cheap (if i recall) and lets you use level 1-3 chips (i think)

either way, as most have already said, start cheap and build up from there

The other point to consider is the economy. The Minor chip uses a lot more ME than the Lesser does. That means that if you want to travel 1600m, you can do it in one jump with the Minor, but it's cheaper to do it in two jumps with the Lesser. Using the Minor for a jump of 800m or less is even more wasteful when you could do it in a single jump with the Lesser.

If you want to be as economical as possible, you should only use the Minor chip if you want to travel a long distance quickly (e.g. jumping back to a half-killed mob) or if you need to jump over a dangerous area.

Quick guide to tp chips

Equipment
  • Lvl I tp chip - camp argos/drones for 2 days OR buy one on the auction for ~tt+1
  • Implanter & Aa implant - both are in the TT
  • Mind essence - sweat & mine force nexus then refine in enmatter refiner OR buy for ~210% on auction

When all items are acquired, mind essence (ME) is in your weapons inventory and the rest is in your tools inventory.

Prepare: Use Implanter to stick the implant in your head. To do this, equip the implanter and activate. Drag the implant to it and click the button. (oh so fun to watch )

To teleport
  • Equip the tp chip
  • Activate
  • After X sec. "warmup", activate again
  • Map comes up, all grayed out except circle around you
  • Pick your destination (clicking outside the circle will select the outermost edge in that direction)
  • click the button on the map (just like using a TP)

Cost: 9 ME + ~3pec decay on the chip and implant = ~22pec/jump.

That should do it. Any questions?

No doubt. TP chips are more addictive than Crack.
