From zero to mining hero - (another) enmatter mining diary

Those mining blogs will probably soon be considered as spam, but seeing others (e.g. Sophia, Julius or Anna Ufo - good luck to you btw!) doing records of their runs I couldn't resist the temptation of making my own thread .

To start with I'm almost a total n00b, I started playing EU on January 29th (that's almost two weeks ago). So I treat this diary also as a place when I can get some feedback from more experienced players and improve my runs.

Now a bit about my (hi)story: after joining and depositing (on the second day of I had enough of sweating ) I bought myself an Opalo and wanted to start my hunting career. After loosing about 15 PED on ammo on Daikabas and not breaking even I switched to mining. First I mined for ores and then switched to enmatter (as I read here on the forum that it's better for beginners). And it was better because on the 3rd day of my mining I got a HoF - 136PED on typnolic which i sold for 209PED (using TT finder) and 2 days later a Global (56 on Oil - it took me ages to extract it, even my extractor couldn't take it and in broke down ). But apart form that two findings it's not always so great. I'm doing a record of all my runs anyway so I figured out that i might as well post it here

Skills:
As i said I'm a beginner and my skills are pretty low:
Drilling - 500 (02.24.08) -> 605 (03.08.08) -> 844 (03.20.08)
Surveying - 481 (02.24.08) -> 574 (03.08.08) -> 762 (03.20.08)
Geology - 287 (02.24.08) -> 364 (03.08.08) -> 440 (03.20.08)
(dirlling and surveying were way below 200 when I got my first HoF and global)

Equipment:
For Enmatters:
Finder: MF-102 (maxed) -> Ju40 (L) (maxed)
Excavator: TT extractor
Refiner: MT-101 (I use it only sometimes)

For Ores:
Finder: TT Finder (maxed)
Excavator: TT extractor
Refiner: TT refiner

All time balance after 59 runs: +612,18PED

Care to win couple of PEDs? Check One2watch's 100sweat2ahangar site; I did and I won 18PEDs already! It's super easy

So here go first two runs (both which I did today):
__________________________________________________ ________________________
Run #1
Location: around Treasure Island
Probes used: 56
Claims: 17 (30%)

I got:

Oil: II,III,IV,IV (7.02 TT)
Nexus: III,III,III,III,III,IV,IV (12.65 TT)
Growth Molecules: II,III (2.82 TT)
Lytarian Dust: III (1.33 TT)
Alicenies: II,II (1.05 TT)
Typonolic Steam: II, (0.60 TT)
TT sum:25,47

Sold for:32,04

Balance:
-28PED (probes)
+32,04
=4,04

Balance all time:4,04

Comments:
This run actually began on Eudoria in my favorite spot near Orthos but after 7 empty drops I figured out that somebody was there before me. So the income might have been much better... All in all i was quite satisfied with the run and went straight on to another...

__________________________________________________ ________________________
Run #2
Location: 3 different places on both continents
Probes used: 40
Claims: 10 (25%)

I got:

Oil: 3xII, IV (3.79 TT)
Growth Molecules: II (0.94 TT)
Melchi: II (0.58 TT)
Alicenies: IV (2.00 TT)
Garcen: II, (3.60 TT)
TT sum:10,91

Sold for:12,75

Balance:
-20PED (probes)
+12,75
=-7,25

Balance all time:-3,21

Comments:
Might have been better ... Those losses are probably caused by the fact that i was looking for some new places to mine and after dropping a couple of probs without any bigger findings in one area, I moved to another random spot...

If you have been reading this post from the top all the way down to here then you have to be insane . Nonetheless thank you for your interest. Feel free to drop a line of comments suggestions or anything you want .

Btw I don't use any weapons as that would bring big expenses to my mining. Also i don't think that I really need them - I found both, a HoF and a global in areas without any mobs - that kinda contradicts the opinion (that I have read somewhere here) that in order to be an efficient miner you have to be also a hunter...

I will add tools expenses when I'm actually repairing them. My finder is quite healthy so far and the extractor is barely living (but im keeping it that way because I'll max it soon and switch to something else...).

i would advise using the tt extractor since the higher ones have worse economy than the tt one. And nowadays it looks like one needs to save every pec to break even...

I second that

I have maxed it long time ago, however the fact is that it IS the best of extractors. For ores the same.

TT extractors are good for enmatter, too; however, as for ores, OF-101 is actually much better than the TT finder, decay-wise and depth-wise.

And I'm glad you chose my approach to writing a balance It actually shows what people get, how big and how many claims do they have.

I'd also agree that exploring new places makes losses, usually; I have three main locations (more or less) and now am mining only in them

Nah....initially maybe, but how can you ever do anything in mining without exploring? It's key, and half the fun. All locations are at some point new. Only by getting out there and looking do we find anything worth going back to.

Resources are fickle beasties and can be vanquished at the touch of a key in the MA office....dynamic they call it....best to keep exploring and ready for that sad day when your waterhole runs dry

I try to hunt and mine in the same area, if feasible. The Tripudions and Fouls SW of Billy's are out of the way of any major gathering sites, so mining could be decent there.

Yea I've been reading your logs and found them very nice to read, so i borrowed your layout .

Run #3
Location: North of TI
Probes used: 40
Claims: 7 (17,5%)

I got:

Oil: III,III,II (4.01 TT)
Nexus: IV,II (2.87 TT)
Sweetstuff: III (1.38 TT)
Typnolic: II (0.45 TT)
TT sum: 8.71

Sold for:13,74 (Estimate - i haven't sold it yet but I don't think it'll vary much)

Balance for this run:
-20PED (probes)
+13,74 (findings + markup)
=-6,26

Balance all time:-9,47

Comments:
This spot is strange... One time I made a nice profit there and now this... Well... Maybe the respawn there is slow or something. I should have gone out of there while I still could... But I think that -9,47 isn't THAT bad for a n00b like me... I'll wait couple of days before I go back there...

Just a friendly suggestion: User at least 200 probes/run so you care recover from bad periods during a run.

I have seen many threads like this one, and all it took was a bad mining run, to demoralize the miner and hurt his ped card in a way that he/she stopped posting his records.

GL,
Adi
