I found two, maybe three VI claims in the beginning. Somewhat later I also got an IX and VII. All those nice claims got me something else:

This is the first run where both hunting and mining had a positive return. Still mining just got to be better.

I was celebrating too soon. Mining can be poor and it is poor for me this round and the next.

I didn't only dropped bombs north of Port Laglantis. When I just started, a socmate called for a beaconrun. I had to come and dropped a few bombs on my way to the beacon as well. I found: nothing, nothing and more nothing. Back to Port Atlantis where mining was pretty much the same.

Comments:
I don't know what I'm doing wrong now with mining. I got a VI Belkar claim the second bomb I dropped. That was the best I got from all. EnMatter was even worse, in the loot window you can see Acid Root, Melchi Water and Alicinies Liquid. Bad thing is that I got three EnMatter claims.

I'd say you drop too few. 24 is a very limited amount.
I'd take at least 50 each

I don't believe in the "spend PEDs fast, get more" theory. For me, 10 times 10 PEDs is the same as one time 100 PEDs. This may be better for a new discussion or a new test.
For this test/experiment/??? I want to ensure that I spend the same in both proffessions. I do this to get a better answer what is better for myself. Hunting was bad so I had to drop what I can spend per run.

Some days ago I dumpted everything I owned with Mining vs. Hunting in the trade terminal to see what's left tt-wise. This is for mining:

Perhaps I'll give a clearer comparing later, for now I'll say that mining is (far) better tt-wise.

Comments:
This run was done a few days ago, before the new version. I had a major succes with hunting on run #21 and wanted to go for another longer run. I did pay of very well for mining. From what I remember, I got a lot of claims. Those weren't big claims, but I got more hits.
This is my second best mining run. Second only to a 122%, with only 24 bombs and probes.

Back to the small runs, because hunting was bad after just one Katsuichi run. In the beginning I found quite some claims. Untill there was a turning point where I couldn't find even a tiny claim. Resulting in a rather bad return:

It is not about getting more, but a simple risk management technique that ppl use to diversify their "investments". If you mine more spots you are more likely to stabilize your loot, rather than alternating between excellent and terrible. This way you get rid of "place factor", but if you do it as fast as you can, you'd get rid of(minimize) the "time factor".

True ... If you are going to compare hunting and mining, you must do large amount of PED so the result would be more reliable. Doing <50 PED per run and say hunting or mining is better is not convincing at all. Likewise, you can't kill a mob that doesn't loot and say "Hunting is bad" and hit a IX ample on your first bomb and say that "Mining is nice today" ... I know it's exaggerating but I hope you get my point ...

Not really. If u drop more in a row, you have the chance to get youre invest out of the lootpool. If u just drop few the chance that you only fill the lootpool is higher. Think about it.

Here look my mining blog (100 bombs per run). I think without getting something special or a hof / global i do pretty well. (-40 ped)
