well basicaly you were very lucky to get those HoFs in the start.
And yes finders effect your search depth ![]() When you say you loose 10 ped per run, is that with or without markup? Well actually either way its not bad. Just keep droping those bombs... |

As mentioned you were extremly lucky to get two hofs and also narc and I wouldn't be surprised if you hit a dry period after that. Greater asd will most likely increase your chance to find nicer ores, and not so much your overall TT return. 10 ped loss per run is as mentioned not so bad, you will probably even things out pretty soon if you keep dropping bombs.

There are many theories about mining depths, but mine is that the depth shown is just a random number generated from your finder's average search depth. In other words, you are not missing out on lower depths by using a better finder, it's just that your successful finds are shown as being deeper.
I'm level 22 Prospector, and the records I've kept show no correllation between financial return and either skill level or finder. You do however need to find areas of consistent finds, and judge how many bombs to use there; i.e your own skills are more important than your avatar's. Eventually, mining should be slightly profitable; whether that justifies the time it takes is for you to judge. |

1) It doesnt affect your TT return value, but it will certainly affect your overall return after markup. Depth affects what type of resource you get, which have vastly different markups. 2) If you are using a TT finder or other shallow finder, and you stumble into a field with only deep ores....you will lose your butt. This is pretty rare tho, most areas have shallow and deep ore types so you usually still hit, but there are some areas you will lose badly with a tt finder. |

The first sentence of your first point is precisely the belief my records refute (and I have exact records of each 50 bombs since I was about level 3). The rest of your post, I had already summarised in the second half of my second paragraph. Another point for the thread-starter, obviously your return will be determined by the occasional Global, and you will just have to invest until they come. You will certainly need capital of 500 to 1k Peds to get through the bad periods. |

Ive got records of every probe and bomb ive dropped.
My average tt value per run has changed very little from when i started to now. But i can push up the return by mining the right stuff in the right spots. There certainly have been ups and downs tho, but oveall tt value has changed very little. Im on the downswing of an up period tho so actually at the moment my tt returns are good. I consistently do better now(20 pros, 21 surv) then i did when i started. But its not the skill level its just i know where/what/when to mine. With knowledge of mining i also realize i started at the right time at the right place(certain ores were higher markup, and id do bad in those spots if i started today). I guess we have data that show oppisite trends, i guess only proving that nothing is certain :p |

Skill level affects what finder you can use, but will not affect what you find or how much. I think it is a common practice to chip out the skills above what you need and sell them.
A 105 won't find many rare ores, but its good for all the more common ores. I wouldn't use an amp with it unless I were sure of the field I was in (unless I just have a bunch of partial amps leftover from crafting run). I stay with the 105 because in my opinion the markup on the uber finders makes them very risky, in terms of profit or loss. But there are people who use nothing else, so these finders must work for them. The 105 doesnt give spectacular finds but it does give a steady return. |
