oh well.... i think it's gonna be interesting for you....
one day i have been hunting umbra's (so it was about a half of a year ago?) than i saw that something weird spawned like 100 meter's in front of me... i realised that it's a robot beacon, anyway i ve seen 3 green dot's on my radar and there was a bunch of mob's there (not including drones)... i just came over there and pressed the button... the miner was probably dead and if i wouldn't take this than the other hunter would probably do it... . I'm sorry to guy who claimed it but i haven't had any other option. I Voted 1!

This pool makes the asmumption miners are the ones spawning the ships, and we have no real evidence of them doing that.

I did. 30 secs later came GD claimed it and continued it's mining run (note it spawned outside of my radar in a place where I was comeing from, seen it while returning to mine claim). Also had one "my" spaceship which was directly on route I come.

I found a spaceship one, not mine ofc... i actually waited around 35 minutes for a green dot to show up and killed any mob around it while waiting

no one showed up so i grabbed it and if he would have showed up at that moment i would have handed over the 2K residue and 23 ped beacon to him
so i voted 3, give a reasonable amount of time before taking. in my case i think some noob found it and didnt know what to do with no society/mentor to guide him, OR... it was a spawn that no one has mined close to being no green dot, no bots, just the ship

i found 2 wich were not mine in the middle of nowhere with no drones and no green dots in sight .. so i pushed the button and took the 50 ped ... ( both of em were without beacon) i mean what would u do if u find 5$ on the street? :P

Can remember one of my disciples finding his first space ship. Ofcourse he has no idea what to do. I tp'd out 3 minor tp jumps, to show him how to press the button. He even got paranoid with me thinking i was going to steal it, which did make me chuckle

Im normally good with half killed mobs and giving the person some time to get back, but if i came across a spaceship and no one around i would take it. Maybe that makes me greedy in some peoples eyes. I dont think it is, just taking a opportunity that is presented. No different to finding money on the floor irl.

Honestly, if MA didn't want it to be 'up for grabs'

1) They would change the system... but the don't. They changed regular mining to insta-claim...why not spaceships? Cuz they want it this way.

2) If it was 'yours' why would MA make you get the signal so far away?

3) A lot of miners can't even kill the bots protecting the spaceship and need help, which takes more time. Sure you can just run up and press the button, many have tried... many have died. Why make it difficult for you average miner to loot it, if it a 'miners' ship?

4) What if 2 miners get the same signal at the same time? Who get's it then? The 1st person to push the button that who!

5) Does it piss you off more that a hunter looted it or would you be happy if you bumped into an uber miner and he looted it?

Intent is what makes something wrong or not. If you intent was to steal it, then you stole it. If your intent was to loot it because it is there, then I see no foul.

I've actually had someone loot mine while I was fighting off the bots, so we all have our hard-knock life stories. Get over it and move on, it's not yours till you loot it is my opinion. In any event I think MA designed the system this way for a reason, so if you want to complain to someone I say write support or ask in the next 'interview' with a MA offical.

Yup. Spawn elsewhere on depletion like mobs, mining deposits and dung/fruit/stones would be more logical. ;P

Let me put the quote directly in here for the hard to follow links. I don't think it can really be argued anymore now that MindArk has given a say but clearly it's a miners find.

This is the answer :

First of all I would like to clarify you did not do anything wrong, in this case the spaceship indeed was a result of mining, but sometimes the miner can not take the spaceship because they get killed/disconnected or from some other reason.
It will be up to you to decide if you want to give it back to the miner that extracted it.

So a spaceship always belongs to a miner as it's the result of his action.
For me it's clear now that my action to claim it, was wrong.
It's like killstealing.
I don't deserve it and by claiming it i stolen the enjoy from the miner.

Yes anyone that is close enough can claim a spaceship but, in my opinion, the propper action is to let or even help if needed the miner claim it. I'm sure that all of u agree with it.

If a spaceship is really left from the miner alone for anyreason then yes whoever find it can claim it.

At least that's what i will do from now on.
