Log sharing site - If I code it would you use it?

I was thinking of creating and hosting a site where you can upload an XML export from NRF with at least 100 unique claims and in return you get access to the master list for 3 months. Then to renew your access you simply need to contribute at least another 100 claims.

I think I've got the workflow figured out so it could be smart enough to send you only new information (not spitting back the stuff you just uploaded or resending you stuff you've already been provided.) But before I invest the effort and maybe some money to host it, I want to see if there is an interest.

I'm also curious if this is something that would be frowned upon as I believe keeping claim locations secret is part of the mining way. I'd hate to work on something that I thought the community would find helpful only to wind up with folks being p*ssed.

So what do you think? Should I give it a shot?

I am not sure it would get much use. There is a site where you are able to enter claims and then see them on a map, and it had less than 7000 entered when I looked. And there you would only get your own claim map.

But yes i would use it.

But you have to make sure ppl dont upload just old stuff to get the new stuff, ie some checks are needed.

But yes just upload your nrd file, then parse it and put it together with the other files uploaded to get a masterfile you can merge to your own.

Although you should just make it as this, upload -> latest complete list. Not give access to the master list for 3 months, ie if you want to update the list you need to upload your own.. ALWAYS

That is due to the fact you have to put in the stuff manually and who want to do that smoe couple of thousands of times when you can just upload a file instead and voila done.

Thanks Legion. I'm glad I got at least 1 response. (Although the number of views versus the number of replies alone makes me think there is limited interest.)

Yes, I have thought about various checks I'd want to do to ensure some data quality. I do web and database programming for a living so the scope of this for me is pretty simple. Therefore I could check things like date/time, and look for duplicate entries as far as X,Y, and Depth for the Ore/Enmatter. Data like that would not be added a second time and it would not count towards your 100 new claims. I'll probably add more and more checks as time goes on.

I also like your idea that if you want an update, you need to add more. It will increase the contribution rate and make the programming easier.

Lastly, yes, I do want this to be different from the site already in place. As you already pointed out its meant to be easy; no data entry. And the value is to get access to a master list not just your own claims. NRF already manages your own data and it uses OCR instead of entering data by hand. Also the idea is to allow everyone that contributes to have the same access to the master list that I'd wind up with.

Well even though I only got 1 response so far I'll probably give it a shot. It shouldn't be too tough to program.

I think a lot of users think and say they wont use it but if it's available i think they will use it.

There might be a few ppl that are dumb enough to not use it and who STILL believes there is a respawn timer and thinks ooh someone will mine my area then and it will be empty when i get there and go all cranky.. get it into your heads.. there is no respawn timer!!!! :P

Who knows, maybe a big enough collection of this data will give us the critical information we need to do more wild and inconclusive speculating about how EU works!

I did get started on the project; no ETA yet when the first cut will be available but probably by mid or end of next week (unless I get really motivated this weekend.)

But no thread wars as a result of my work, please. Only good-spirited banter at worst.

No matter how dumb you say we are - Then our ways are making profit and last I checked you werent making any


I like the idea, but honestly, I wouldn't share my areas - respawn timer or not, I don't like others mining in "my" areas
