Mining Skills and tools?

Well thanks to a buddy of mine I had a decent mining run at Treasure Island.

I spent 50PED on EnMatter probes and came back with about 34PED if I sell everything at weekly markup.

Obviously I'm in the hole 16PED but whatever life goes on.

I'm just curious as to how this system works? I notice most tools increase in "Depth" if you're skilled enough to use them and if my common sense is worth anything "Depth" affects how big the deposits are (I haven't been able to get anything better than "Average")

But from what I can tell most tools have the same area-of-affect when it comes to scanning and I'm struggling to figure out what I need to do to stop going into the negative here...there has to be something else that affects this whole ordeal?

You can find any size at any depth but what you find may vary as some enmats sit much deeper than your depth range.

So different resources are at deeper depths than others and the size of the deposit is pure luck?

You will find more rare enmatters deeper down, so the higher skills which allow you to use the deeper finders will get you the rare stuff with good mark-up, but from what I've seen many of the big hofs are hit less than 500m

If you want to increase the size of finds you use amplifiers, make sure you know what you are doing before you start using them. Like what enmats you are likely to find and so on.
