Nightbird's Mining Diary

I am creating this diary both to motivate myself to do more runs and also stop losing my mining return information.

Equipment: OF-105, OM-104, OT-105
Run size: 300 bombs, oa101 only

For simplicity, I use tt spent as 450 peds, which is bomb + amp decay. I also only count the tt of refined ores I get in return. I keep raw ores in inventory until they get refined, so there is a little bleed over between runs but no difference overall.

The information I will post is number of hits as a % of 300, tt return as a % of 450peds, the cycle duration I used for the run, globals if any, and notes if any.

Run 1:

Return: 66.0%
Hits: 24.7%
Cycle: 5.00 sec

Notes: The cycle duration I used this run was obsolete 4 years ago, I just wanted something as a baseline.

Run 2:

Return: 79.0%
Hits: 28.0%
Cycle: Varies

Notes: I started this run with my last theory thread's cycle duration at 5.45secs, but it rapidly became obvious that it wasn't working. I starting searching for the new interval and only with 50 bombs remaining did I feel like I found it. I'll wait until next run to post it since 50 is too small a sample and I want to double check.

Run 3:

Returns: 83.5%
Hits: 30.3%
Cycle: 2.55 sec

Notes: Good thing I didn't post the cycle last run, it was wrong. I think I finally found it at the 150bombs mark. At 150bombs, I was 1 hit below the 25% mark when I started using 2.55s and started getting more hits, with 37 hits with the last 100 bombs. Still, 150 isn't a lot so I'll try to dedicate the entire next run to it and see if I can't still break 30%. Last note, my tt return is low because I am getting a lot of very poors, however I expect for it to get better as I exit my bad avatar cycle. No globals to date.


Run 4:

Returns: 100.6%
Hits: 28.0%
Cycle: 2.55 sec
Global: 54

Notes: I'm still convinced that it is 2.55, this run was kinda screwed up since I was forced to do it in 5 parts (each time I restart I have to find the cycle again). My find sizes are getting large though, hopefully it'll stay this way for 3 runs!

Run 5:

Returns: 83.6%
Hits: 26.0%
Cycle: 2.55 sec
Global: 50

Notes: One of the most difficult runs I've ever done. The area was very dry and it was common to get 8+ misses in a row so I had a hard time determining when to drop. To top it off, I think the cycle changed so 2.55 doesn't work very well anymore. I'll do a cycle search again next run.

Run 6:

Return: 81.0%
Hits: 27.3%
Cycle: 2.5 sec

Notes: New cycle, hopefully I'll get better luck next run though. It went well for the first 150 bombs, 30% hit rate, then downhill.

Run 7:
Return: 90.8%
Hits: 26.3%
Cycle: 2.5 sec
Global: 53

Notes: This is not the hit rate I want to be getting, time to rethink the whole thing

Run 8:
Returns: 101.5%
Hits: 28.7%
Cycle: 2.5 sec
Globals: 76, 52

Notes: I rediscovered something I hadn't used for a while, and it worked well until I got to the last 30 bombs = 1 hit :/

Run 9:
Returns: 80.7%
Hits: 25%
Cycle: 2.5sec
Global: 81

Notes: Ran into two other miners. I'm considering a change in location since all runs thus far have been in one place and I'm starting to think that's not the best idea

Run 10:
Returns: 63.8%
Hits: 25.3%
Cycle: 5 sec

Notes: First 100 bombs had 10% hit rate no matter what I did, I did this run in 5 parts because even the hits I got was full of very poor's. Last 100 dropped was ok.

Run 11:
Returns: 75.2%
Hits: 23.7%
Cycle: 5.1 sec

Notes: Can't help feeling those big mining ATHs made loot worse last 2 runs.

Run 12:
Returns: 87.6%
Hits: 28.3%
Cycle: 5.1 sec

Notes: 600 bombs unamped, done over 3 segments segments since 600 drops takes quite a long time.

To Date:
Drops: 3900 Hits: 26.9% Returns: 82.9%

Run 13:
Returns: 123.3%
Hits: 27.7%
Cycle: 5.1 sec
Globals: 73, 52, 50 (ship, no beacon)

Notes: Normal setup this run. Hope this kind of return continues

VU10

Run 13, 14, 15:
Run 13 Returns: 150% (300tt, no amp)
Run 14 Returns: 89% (450tt, normal)
Run 15 returns: 107% (450tt, normal)

Notes: I've done more runs than these since VU10, but I didn't take notes as I was focusing more on exploring the new lands and testing the mining system. Results were more or less consistent. I'm currently a bit too lazy to record the number of hits, so I'm also not posting new cycle information for the time being.

I am satisfied with my knowledge of the new Calypso for now, so I will post all runs from now on.

Run 3 updated. If anyone knows of a journal with a long term hit rate average, could you link me please? I would like to take a look. I found a nice enmatter analysis thread, with a lot of data and average hit rate of 27.1%, but an ore loot analysis thread would be more relevant.

I have to think that the location effects hit rate.
