Miners are just an interesting aspect of the loot system where the miner is a threat to the loot.

If you get a strange signal and manage to loot the ship, just know that you've stolen the peds from the rightful ownership of a hunter.

Sure, you got there first. Doesn't change the fact you stole it.

thats a load of crap! stolen peds from the rightful ownership of a hunter?

The rightful owner is the one that acctual press the red buttom. If its a miner, crafter, hunter or even a trader is the rightful owner of the spiceship.

If you find a spaceship without dropping a bomb, I suggest that you try to find the miner that made visible and thank him

im pretty sure that comment was meant to be humorous, but either way, ive looted a few ships while hunting and even waited around for a miner to show before/after hitting the button with not a single soul coming into radar the entire time.

Seems spaceship ownership is going thru hot debates again these days. (Tends to happen every few months ) Figured this thread deserves a ressurrection rather than starting new ones.

So here it goes:

And check out what MA has to say here:

Spaceships

most fun thing would be to wait around for the miner in a pvp area and when he commes along you pop him and then loot the ship

For what it's worth....

Imo dropping bombs or probes triggers the appearance of spaceships, and the finder of the dropper shows the location.

Since spaceships can be claimed by anyone who reaches it first, reach yours first, or you'll be dependand on the mood of others.

MA obviously made it this way on purpose, so It's a question of ethics to claim ships that you haven't found with your own finder (I personally wouldn't claim it without waiting a bit to see if someone comes back, but that's me ).

But does that decide the fight?
Did this person just find the spacecraft or did they find the craft using a mining finder. If it was a hunter who found it and it put it in the mining catagory I would then believe it belongs to miners, otherwise I have never seen anybody's name on it until they press the button.

This reminds me of how mining used to be, when you had to run to the claim spot for you to get the deed. When I would team hunt and drop a bomb I met this one player who got their rocks off of dropping a bomb right when I would. It then became a race to who would get to it first as we both would get the same signal. Even if I dropped 1st, it was in no way 'my claim' until I claimed. Yea it sucked, but that's life.

Which brings up my point. I don't believe spaceships belong to miners. Miners have the equipment to find them, but do they make them spawn... I don't think so. No one knows so to say you do if false. What I believe happens is they are randomly generated and sit there until someone finds them. The strange signal always seems to be 200+meters away which does show some consistancy, but maybe they can only be detected at that distance. That doesn't mean the miner spawned them. That like saying fruit/stones belongs to hunters.

So I think they spawn and who ever finds them and pushes the red button that's who owns it. Yes, I had one 'stolen' before when I had a signal but I never thought it was mine. I remember thinking 'Shit, I better get there fast.'

I would like to know if this hof is from a miner or hunter though.

Well the easy solution to all of this is if you are hunting or just running around and you happen across a Spaceship just claim it and leave 2 ped tt worth of residue on the ground where you found it. That way the miner who spawned it is not out anything--He gets his ped back for the bomb and a ped for decay and if he spawned it with enmatter well Hell he doubles his investment.

First come first serve-I have located 6 spaceships while mining--all with finders and have never "Happened" across one but I have also never lost one to someone else--The main reason I think that is--I carry my armor and weapons with me-when I get the signal it is GO time not T back diddle-doddle around chat with friends get some gear Blah Blah Blah--It's mad dash to the ship to claim my prize-If I see a green dot, and I have, I don't even worry about the bots I run right past and hit the button THEN deal with the bots.

If I ever happened upon one and there was a green dot in radar I Wouldn't rush in to take it from him--But if I found it and nobody else was around to bad they should have claimed it cause the way I see it IT is a lot harder to just happen upon one of these than it is to follow a signal.

Weee, thread necro

I quoted this from the other thread, as it seems to be the only "official" comment on this we have.

This is the answer :

First of all I would like to clarify you did not do anything wrong, in this case the spaceship indeed was a result of mining, but sometimes the miner can not take the spaceship because they get killed/disconnected or from some other reason.
It will be up to you to decide if you want to give it back to the miner that extracted it.
It is indeed possible that Mindark spawns some random spaceships, too, just like free oil at the rig. (although i doubt it...)
However, i found >10 spaceships so far, all while mining (as a result of a drop, indicated by the finder), and not a single one during others activities.

And this thread is quite old now, i've seen many more spaceships HoFs since back then... not a single one went into the Hunting section of the HoF table.

IMO, it's definitely a miners find, only a single finder will detect it, and this is guy who triggered the spawn. (and the one entitled to loot the ship, imo)

Who finally loots it is a different story...

In any case, if you don't have it on your finder, it's most likely not yours, so if you want to loot it, wait some minutes. If noone shows up, it's yours.
(And some minutes means: the owner might have to drown the drones, before he can claim the ship(i usually mine without armor/ammo on me, too) or revive and need several hops to TP back, so we're talking about something around 5 minutes here.
