Skilling spots

I dropped 6 bombs on the same spot and I got no find but I got this:

Prospecting
Prospecting
Prospecting
Geology
Geology
Prospecting

7th missed.


Is this normal? Or are there spots in the game that give you skills completely unrelated from finds?

Maybe waste, but skillgain... i tried that a lot when im mined for matters.

as i can see it is totally absurd,

moving out you can get a finding a hof or a ath (and gaining skills in the process).....

why in heaven drop all the probes in same spot to gain skills?!?!?!?!

Skill gains have nothing whatever to do with location. Timing, and the direction you are facing, maybe, (See Nightbird's mining thread relating to timing, direction faced and deposits) but surely not location.

this is probably the most important one. if you think about it for a bit, you'll see why what happened to him happened. even considering the effect, I don't think it's worth it to throw away bombs and probes in that manner.

There was a different time in the game most of you will know nothing about but i will fill you in.

Back in the day before instant claim you had to get your deposit. Now heres the fun part. a looong time ago i found a vast deposit.. back when they were max 600 ped and with it came a skill gain. Now i was 50 m away from the deposit and completely alone. i had about 70 bombs left. and since skills moved alot faster then i knew it may be a good idea to skill on this.. so i dropped all 70 bombs and found the vast 70 times and on the last bomb claimed it. although the cool thing was i got like 35 skill gains in the process. So there was a time when it was cool to bomb over and over but now i think its totally pointless.

Ok so 'why' is missing. I was just curious to see if I can:

- find something by bombing the same place
- see how many times I get a skill

Waste of peds? Yes. But all in experimental purposes. Since MA is not telling us anything we are limited by what we do ourselves and it all costs us peds.

So I found out that you can stand in one spot and skill. If that is a good or bad thing... who cares.
