what about 8-900 prospecting/surveying, 750 geology, and 1.5k mining/drilling and finding no deposits?

and my skills were built before VU, when u would get prospect/geology only in fields, not according to number of bombs dropped...

1.You don`t get prospect/geo/surv by number of bombs dropped. Noticed that after dropping 50 ped bombs and noticing after the trip was over the increase in skill was WAY smaller than it should have been.
2.What do you mean by no deposits?maybe no ath but findings?small pockets..that kind of stuff?

Maybe you'll have to find new spots. As Panther said, he had to change also.
From my "noobah" experience (thx Panther for the credits) I can say the same thing. I had some spots myself, pre VU, which are now reduced to 0% - one of them, and the other (maybe 20-30%). The last one I use as a "roll of the dice". Whenever mining is bad for me in one area, I keep the last probes for a little gambling in that field with a 20-30% chance.


About playing all time long.....cannot if the ISP goes bannans from time to time

I posted in the other thread :

there are 3 factors, and only 3, which should govern whether or not you profit:

Skill
Knowledge
Luck

2 or more of these, and you profit...

oh, and each one should be taken as a factor from 0-1. Therefore, maybe you have 3000 mining skill (average). This should be about 0.6-7 on the mining skill, then maybe you know how to mine and where deposits are, that should be 0.8. so from those two, you have 1.4-1.5. So you need to make 0.5 luck or more, to profit

Maybe, you only have some Skill, little Knowledge, and no Luck.

Using that same methodology, with someone such as strakkan:

Skill - 1
Knowledge - 0.9

His luck just needs to be 0.1 or higher to profit..

Now i hear you say, well, how come noob X gets a 1000 ped hof with 0 skill and 0 knowledge?

Well - i would say that if they play for long enough, they will eventually drop into loss.

And sometimes MA fucks theories up by bloating luck

Aio, might be interesting what u say, but I ain't gonna mine on luck. If I wanna casino, I go hunting. Or I will do gamble with someone on if i can outrun an armax bull guradian or no.

Mining isn't or, at least, shouldn't be based on luck. The whole economy or wannabe economy of Project Entropia has its backbone in mining, which is the main source for crafters.

Let's take as an example the iron. Is maybe the most used ore in crafting. How can a crafter makes some plans in sales/skilling if he can't predict in reasonable terms the availability of iron? How can we have good armours and good weapons available on large scale if the miners can't mine scientificall?

And other questions. What would I teach a disciple in mining? "Go out there, throw bombs and maybe u will be lucky?". I should be able to tell him "go to that area, in those intervals and u will have a minimum income of this ore, which u can sell to that avatar or to the other one". The HoF was always a matter of luck (as an example Zefram, who drove me crazy one evening with 8 globals in 2-3 hours). We talk about the average income, about the average spawn of ores. And of course about the skills (and yes, Panther, if u use an unmastered ore finder, u WILL get perception/geology each 3-4 bomb). How can I use perception, how can I use geology, how can I use prospection?

If i use a finder that i don`t master?maybe the new ones...atm i have no learning bonus on 104 series and below....this is crappy...and no....i don`t wanna go hunting because mining is jinxed...if i want to go mining i want to do it with a little hope...same for hunting...not like now...yesterday...took me no more than 1.5h to make 100 ped vanish.talk about skill?nope..talk about places?nope...bad luck?what is bad luck in a game?a string that says : "//panther will loose 100 ped today if he does lift a finger"...?i`m not upset...i don`t understand some things...just that...

Lost more than 100 ped in a day..so i`m used to it...just that i`m not sure better days will come...that`s all
