I was like you for quite some time, maybe about 6 months of mining and I never got above like 50% return.

But then one day it turned around, and now I often do pretty well mining, I think as a hunter it takes a bit to get into the 'swing' of the mining loot...

My biggest problem is that if the mining is good, the mobs I have to kill in my path tend to loot really bad...and if I win mining, i'll almost definately lose hunting.

Well ofc it's not a valid test in that way, but it was never meant to be - just trying to make mining a bit more interesting now i've cut the bigger ore amps out of my life

- perception, chipped out a couple of times - never found any corrolation between perception and loots. Or anything else for that matter except for helping some pro standings and giving health.

- metallurgy, got 1 in metallurgy. In my opinion it's being in the mining section is a bug but who knows

Doesn't seem too different to the results that I get in that area normally with an OF 105, although I did notice that I found slightly less claims than usual. The fact that I haven't found anything bigger than ample in the first 380 bombs of this i'm just putting down to bad luck

Was originally planning on having another run either with the of 101 or 102 before moving up to the 211 but since this experiment hasn't started that well ped wise I think i'll take Nvck's advice and buy a lowish TT of 211 asap...

Decided to take a chance and buy an OF 211 even though it takes a large chunk out of the initial budget. What I did notice is that even with only 319 / 472.6 depth at the start of this run there was hardly any difference to what I'd expect to find with the finder maxed or with an OF 105. The only difference was finding the ores at an average depth of 200-400 metres instead of 400-600 but what does that matter
I would definately now advise new miners to by an OF 211 as soon as they can rather than messing around with OF 102s and 103s etc...

Got a good feeling about this now that the OF 211 is almost maxed after only a few hundred bombs, in fact it seems crazy how quickly you can skill up to use it. I just can't believe when I first started mining I wasted so much time on OFs 102s and 103s Already feel like i'm finding more claims in areas which I know are good to mine in, hopefully next mining run I can be back into the black for the experiment

Looks good. Would you really reccommend the 211 right from the start, or would you suggest some skilling with tt finder or the of-101 first? I obviously won't be starting pro standing 1.2 like you as I have low skills all around.

Well, what I found was that it has only taken me about 500 bombs to go up 2 pro standing levels to go from 1.2 to just over 3 so I doubt it would take long to skill up to where I was at the start of this experiment, I think the first few hundred bombs are nearly always going to be a loss (unless you hit a 20k lyst tower in the first few bombs ) but if you don't worry too much about that and just drop a few hundred bombs quickly to skill up you should be able to use the 211 very quickly.
