Guide: Weapon progression and mob selection

This is basically a copy and paste version of a part this section of my guide (see hunting)

The list basically describes the weapon skilling paths for several professions (like opalo upwards), naming several mobs you can kill when you change to this weapon and also giving a suggestion what armor might be useful

I have been asked to create something like it a couple of times before, and with maxed L weapons i finally got a better bade to do so

anyway
I know that most ppl with 140+ HP, 2-5k evade and a korss400 can kill a snablesnot provider without armor, but that wasn't the point of the list

it is quite hard for me(shitload of work) to get it in a useful shape to make it readable, and since i don't have a useful option to make tables (none i know of at least), hence just a part of the longer version for now (also to see if there is interest at all; and also to see if i get a like "heck, a readable table is sooooo easy, you just gotta.....)
i went for the ---- option to make it easier to keep the line as well
next time i might just make a huge picture

but if you want a better readable version, most likely more up to date even, check my guide, i can work with tables there #D

if someone can't kill the stuff here with the mentioned weapons i could change it as well

oh, besides, its a longer post #D
hf

Weapon progression and mob selection
In this part I will answer the questions like “What weapon should I use next?”, “What mob can I kill with it?” and “What armor, if any, would be useful against it?”

The data for the weapons is based on average damage calculation, which means it includes misses as well, of MAXED weapons, so basically limited ones.
A maxed weapon has the SIB “not anymore” for damage and hit ability.
For this data I used www.entropiatools.com.
Exceptions of this are the tt weapons, the Emik S30 and the CB5, since those are the starter weapons which aren’t maxed yet when you begin. Those weapons were tested before.
I will also imply that you use the highest possible amplifier for the weapon as long it is increasing damage/second and eco.
This means, I ignore all limited amps.
For laser I use the A10x series up to A104 and for BLP the Fi/Ra/Co Beast amp, the other repairable BLP amps are either too high or too rare.
Those amps are still affordable (see it as investment; you can still sell the amp later again).
The mentioned 105 is higher priced, but for some weapons I still used it.

So far to the explanation how I got the damage per second.
Next step was grouping the weapons for the several professions in “stages” with roughly the same damage per second.

Then I set a time which I think should be sufficient to kill your target, which is 20 seconds.
The reasons for 20 seconds:
- A mob attacks roughly every 3 seconds, so that’s roughly up to 7 hits you would take in the worst case, damaging your armor or making it necessary to fap.
The longer this time span the more likely you get a higher repair bill for armor/fap as necessary.
- If the mob inflicts more than 20 damage points per hit this could pretty much kill you as well.
- The mob will regenerate its HP, some faster, some slower.
In any case, the longer the time span the more likely the mob will regenerate a couple of times, thus making you need more ammo.
- Your personal regeneration will take 20 seconds, so you get some HP again, depending on your max HP, which is useful for armor calculation, see below.

Those 20 seconds were set by me, but if you see 30 seconds or more as sufficient for you that’s alright as well.

Next step was to multiply the lowest damage per second of a stage with 20 seconds.
This figure was the max HP I allowed the mob to have, also roughly. If it differs about 5 or 10 I might make an exception.

The 20 seconds I will also use to determine what kind of damage you could get at max, so I will count with 7 hits, and also set the HP of the hunter to 70. If the damage dealt is more than 70, I will suggest armor. The 70 has an increasing buffer (since newcomers start with 88 HP, a buffer of 18 from start) to the max HP.
This damage limit means that you can most likely continue the hunt without having to fap.
So you can often go 1-3 maturity levels with the named equipment, but will have to fap afterwards more likely.
The HP as well as the average damage of the mobs is taken from www.entropedia.info.
I will use the following abbreviations and keep this order in the stage description as well:

LR: Laser Rifle BR: BLP Rifle
LHG: Laser Handgun BHG: BLP Handgun
LB: Long blade SB: Short blade
PF: Power fist C: Club

The (not maxed) are the weapons you tend to use first when you start. Since the skills at that time are quite low, they won’t deal max damage yet, nor will they shoot as fast as a maxed weapon. To pay this credit I marked them as well, to give an idea of the “start prey” for them.
Those were tested in the field.

To the armor and plates I used.
The Armor selection depends on

- Your evade and health points
- If you use a rifle; mob is damaged before it can attack you
- Your damage per second
- Your FAP, if you take a bigger risk but have the FAP to compensate unexpected higher hits
- The surrounding; if you have the right armor for Atrox young but an Atrox Guardian finds you, you might find the armor insufficient.

Hence, the suggested armors here are just a suggestion.
When you move up in your evade skills, use rifles to damage the mob before it reaches you or move up in damage per second, you might as well try lower armor, or the armor without plates on mobs you used it before.
The named armors below are also just a suggestion. I named other options that can replace the armor I used in my list if there was an affordable one. This replacement would work as well if one part of an armor is far too expensive (example ghost foot guards) and could be replaced by a similar one (for this example gremlin foot guards).

I will try to use a lower armor with plates as often as possible, to increase the eco.

Of course if you don’t like say Kobold with 5B plates and rather use Ghost alone (Ghost is cheaper to get) that would work as well of course.
So if you read in the list below “Kobold 5B”, you can as well use Ghost, the protection is pretty close.

To “affordable”: When I wrote this a full 5B set (7 plates) cost around 1000 ped.
I said “affordable”, not necessarily cheap.
But considering that the Ghost with 5B set cost around say 1500 ped and the next armor with comparable stats would cost like 5000 ped or more, you make a quite good deal with the plates.

So to summarize it, you might experiment a bit with armors.

The armors

The basic “cold and impact” armor:

Kobold (13 impact, 3 cut, 8 burn, 12 cold)
Other options here are Pixie, Goblin, Rascal/Rascal (L) and Gnome, but also the basic overall armors.
Exception here is when I think Pixie alone is enough, since it has the lowest impact protection of them all, I will name Pixie.
Besides, Pixie with 2A plates is quite the same as Kobold and Pixie with 5B or Shogun with 5A quite the same as ghost.

The basic “overall” armor:

Predator (L) (11 Impact, 9 Cut, 6 Stab, 7 pen, 5 burn)
Other option here is Shogun.

The “robot armor”:

Vigilante (14 stab, 14 cut, 7 impact, 14 pen, 14 burn)
Other options for smaller robots are predator (L) and shogun with plates.

The higher “overall” armor:

Ghost (19 imp, 15cut, 13 stab, 11 burn, 1 pen, 1 shrapnel, 12 Cold, 1 acid 11 elect).
Other options here are Gremlin, Aurora (L) and Zombie (L) with a bit lower stats though, but if you don’t need the full ghost protection, that would be acceptable.

The plates:

The basic impact plates:

2A plates (5 imp, 3 cut, 1 burn)

The higher “melee mob” plates

5B (12 imp, 9 cut, 8 Stab)
5A is an alternative for the 5B for several mobs and is cheaper to get. It is worth to experiment here as well.

The “robot” plates

6A (11 pen, 12 burn)

The “electric“ plates

6B ( 5 imp, 12 electric)

The “acid” plates

2C (3 imp, 2 cut, 5 acid)

If the damage limit I have set goes above Ghost with 5B plates I will add (good FAP), means a FAP which heals around 20 at least each attempt.
If I just name ghost, Pixie/Goblin/Predator (L) with 5B should work similar and vice versa.
Hence, you should experiment a bit here.

Of course I did not calculate your FAP, so if you have a good one there you might as well go higher on the mob list.

For the Tantillion mob I made an exception, since the younger ones have low HP but are often surrounded by higher ones and all of them are aggressive, I set the young-provider ones together, although the HP differs.
Depending on the main spawn around of those you might need a good armor all the time anyway, so I recommend Pixie (or similar) with 5B plates if several dominants and guards are around, and at least Pixie alone below guardian.

Nice post, this is a good companion to my Mob Ladder

My general advice would be to try to jump higher up the list on occasion, because I recommend an occasional stronger challenge in the early days in order to build up more healing and defence skills. I wouldn't do that all the time, just for some hunts.

I'd also recommend that no-one should follow your list (or mine) to the letter, as there's always room for experimentation and exploration!

I haven't studied the table in detail but a few suggestions from a cursory glance:

I think you probably meant to include Exarosaur Young in Stage 1.

I would bring the Kerberos in much earlier. They can take quite a while to kill with a small gun but they don't hit very hard so your 'kill in 20 seconds' rule isn't necessary. I'd say perhaps put the Youngs at Stage 3 with pixie armour.

You missed a ---------- after Mourner on the last stage so your table has gone out of line there

ya, i mention it, when i speak about armor there is room to experiment

and i also mention that i based the list on killing the mob in 20 seconds
why i mentioned as well

kerberos take way too long to kill with lower weaponry
if thats it how you want to spend your day its ok #D

i made it that detailed that you can follow it pretty safely

i am quite sure sooner or later when you hunt say cauda mature
you gonna get an old on your tail and try to fight it as well

so the "moving up and challenge" is kinda included

i just dont want ppl to go for stuff they can't kill fast enough
the sidenotes i explained in my list

i mainly did that because i think that mentioning the just something like
"easy kill, pixie will do- mourner" and then try and find a dominant and see how long you last #D
that a m2100 isn't good in that case either is also logical

that was the background of the list
i simply don't think anything else is sufficient enough

gotta add some -----

A little question regarding the armor recomendations:

It seems to me from looking at the stats that Shogun+5a gives nearly the same stab/cut/impact protection as Pixie+5b, but the markup on the former is way smaller.

If you already have a set of 5bs then may as well use them, but people who need armor to hunt Exa Doms may not have them yet.

i tried to cover most with as few sets as possible

you can use 5b against more stuff than the 5a and the 5b are later better with the ghost against the bigger stuff, and when you got them the 5a are often unused in storage

but 5a it is an alternative, i gotta go over the 5a set again for the mobs, gonna see how it works out and doesn't crash the limit for the damage i have set #D

Fair point. Then you can use Shogun+2a instead of Pixie+5b for a very close yet much cheaper combo. I doubt a 3 point difference in protection is that crucial, while still saving you over 1k PED in markup. Prices of 5b have been going down quite drastically, so I wouldn't recomend buying them as an investment just now. And you can get 2a plates for less than TT+1, so if you don't need them anymore you can TT them for a very minimal loss, whereas selling 5bs when you no longer want them can lead to a very big loss.
