Question About The Notes ...

This one is real simple (I think) ... I've read all the threads about the notes, and the threads about chat log translations ... even participated in the gathering in the caves beneath New Oxford, and one mini-adventure escorting Adrijanna to a Feff Camp where something was to happen, BUT ...

I'm either having a purple moment, or I'm not alone in thinking that none of the activities surrounding the note decoding and chat log translations have really led anyone anywhere .. have they? It seems that each decoding or translation points to some kind of event or activity that's supposed to take place, but really doesn't. Or if something does happen, it's yet another mystery leading nowhere.

If I'm missing something, and there really is some kind of valid whatever to all of this, then please clue me in, because so far ... all I've seen is everyone chasing their tails. My apologies ahead of time if I'm wrong, but I would like someone to tell me the bottomline here. What has all of this really done for our EU community?

Right now, I am hard pressed to determine any valid benefit the community has derived from all of the activities thus far. Note deciphering is fine, and perhaps fun for some, but what has it all led to?

Please know, that this is not an attempt to disrespect anyone else's opinion about this, nor to bash MA in any way, but rather to get clarification as to what all of this has meant in our virtual universe, and how any of us have benefited ... that's all. Several who have taken part in these activities are special friends, and if I'm just not getting it, then please give me an explanation that might help me to understand this better.

Excellent question! What's the point of all that?

I translated the second conversation's French and Spanish words as a brief intellectual exercise. But, I'm not too interested in the soap or the event itself. It's pointless. In my opinion, your question is most pertinent.

Until it's answered, most of the community members will continue to regard it as a minor event instead of an official one.

I think you could ask the same question about alot of things. Why do people do crosswords? Why do they play EF?

Essentially, some people find the puzzles entertaining. To me it makes alot more sense than spending hours blasting away at Argo's or Troxes (which I do alot).

Very excellent question MindStar9. I've been thinking along the same lines myself. It seems that all we have thus far is encouragement to stop spending peds

It kind of feels like something really cool could happen and all the loose ends of various unfinished story lines could converge but I fear it could just as easily fizzle out into steaming crappiness.

I personally love the idea of the "event" and wish that we could see much more of this sort of thing. Very cool to see the community working so well together to solve the puzzle. I just hope it actually goes somewhere astounding after all the build up.

As I see it, the notes and stuff was/is briefly in Entropia. It is a big plot that goes way beyond our universe and belongs to the swedish tv show called "Sanningen om Marika" (or something like that). I Guess MA saw this as a great oppurtinity to get some free publisity about themselves as both the show and the tv thingy is hosted in sweden. I hope and think that the entropian players participating in this "event" will get a little something for their effort. But I think that the main focus about the whole event is something that will not be solved inside EU. I have watched the tv episodes on telly, and i understand that EU will get some more ppl from it beacuse they show some gameplay now and again even if it is only for Swedish and Norwegian to see. (maybe Danish and Finnish too. I don't know)
For all you people from the rest of the world, I sincerly hope there is something from you to gain too, and I guess that will come from helping solving the riddles (notes) in entropia. As for the full answere I do not think that will ever be revealed on Calypso unfortantly, but Hey! maybe I am wrong.

Seems that a lot of what has transpired so far are just bread crumbs to lead ppl to the next gathering. However, there seems to be a lot of extra information that is being amassed as the puzzle unfolds. I usually just read Pepper's posts whenever something happens and then go back to hunting.

My question for ppl who have seen the show is, are they using footage of the gatherings in the show, or just generic scenes from elsewhere in the game?

You're right, they haven't (so far) led to anything much or any real results. The notes have got people together in a certain place at a certain time so that they can witness some kind of (rather weak) plot development.

The two rendezvous so far haven't really led to anything other than that, plus a wait for the next set of notes to drop. A few people have gained a few PEDs from the ABC guys, but not much to speak of.

It's what used to be called Interactive Fiction, but the interaction is largely irrelevant because the concept depends on the clues being solved. If we couldn't work out the answers to the puzzles, the concept would fail, so they need to seed extra clues to make sure that doesn't happen, which renders the exercise worthless.

They seem to be playing on the fact that the uniqueness of this is the multiple media element (game, TV, web) but actually most 'reality' and 'celebrity' shows have been doing that (albeit with much less involved interaction) for several years.

What they've done, so far, is like sending tickets for a TV show recording to some people picked out of the phone book, without telling anyone what they are coming to see. People will come. But when they aren't impressed with the first show, less will bother with the second.

I'm keeping an eye on events but I'm getting rapidly bored and I certainly don't expect there will be any big result for anyone in the game other than 3 seconds of fame when they are mentioned on Swedish TV

As an aside, as far as I'm aware, no-one has been asked permission to allow their names/avatars/words to appear on TV, and I'm not sure if any have appeared, but if any of this more personal stuff is getting onto national television without the express permission of the players then that raises some difficult legal questions on privacy and intellectual property. If, for example, they are using dialogue from EU avas - e.g. a broadcast of part of our conversations with ABC or Adrijanna - then they ought to be getting clearance for that. I for one would be extremely unhappy about being named or quoted. Perhaps anyone who's seen the TV show could let us know about how they are handling this.

Thank you to those who have contributed so far ... I know that there will be differences of opinion, and I have respect for them all. I guess I'm just confused, because it all seems to be just so unorganized, and aside from the fun (I guess) for some to unravel the notes and hidden meanings, I can't quite figure out "for what" ... and that's where my dilemma is, if you want to call it that.

One thing is for sure ... it did bring the community together in an effort to crack code and try to make some sense out of it. The fact that it seems to be for a soap opera on Swedish TV kinda leaves a good portion of the virtual globe outta the picture. If all of these activities were merely for EU exposure and to add something out of the ordinary to a TV program script, that's kind of cool I suppose, but right now, the end (or are we in the middle) result is rather empty at the moment.

Here's my question ... what do all the notes put together tell us? My head swims from all the data collected at this forum, but I invite you to do some critical thinking about the data, and report where it has really led us ... how do all the pieces fit together thus far? ... or do they? Are you any closer to anything? Is there any semblance of understanding whatsoever? And ... how long is this going to drag on? Perhaps we should ask how long the soap opera season is if all of this is being used for TV script and EU marketing.

Just please don't get me wrong ... I'm genuinely interested in what everyone has to say, because my own critical thinking about this comes up with the same thing over and over again, and I feel I need to step back from it a minute and hear what all of you have to say. Not that I need to hear it for any specific reason, but I'm still a part of this virtual universe, and if this is a big event of some sort (which I don't see that it is right now), then my thoughts are that maybe it should be a bit more organized and far more reaching than a Swedish TV soap opera. To me, it has no relationship to EU whatsoever, other than a variety of activities that seemingly go nowhere other than to feed a script, and get MA some exposure. Not that exposure isn't a good thing, but I just have a sinking feeling about this for now.

I hope somehow I'm proven wrong ... and that all the efforts that everyone brilliantly contributed will not be for naught.
