Why do people replace s with z ?

For me its copying the crowd ... everyone writes "gratz" and it starts looking normal so I just do that. Only for certain "common" "words" though. For other people, I don't know its just internet culture, theres a whole range of various non-dictionary spellings around, including usage of numbers.... If most people understand them, then I use it, otherwise I don't. Alternatively if theres a language code (like a dress code) in the place I post, then I also try to adhere to that.

Because they are American? Compare American English spelling to English spelling and quite a few S's become Z's, although I can't explain why AlumiNIUm becomes AlumiNUm. Is it so hard to say?

Dynamic languages always have those kind of stuffs...
But I can say that the worst is in French!

Seems that people cannot speak correctly anymore... & sometimes I have to admit that this hurt(Z) my eye(Z) ...
