This is one of those times now

I had a PayPal account hacked recently, I am still trying to fathom out why this/could have happened.

Be as careful as you like, I have firewall, anti-virus etc etc, I dont click on random links (even at EF) I dont open emails unless I recognise who they may be from, even then, I wouldnt follow a link.

I dont fall for fake e-mails either, would never use a link there either.

My point is, Im really careful, my pc is protected, and im not foolish.

I have only told 2 people of this hack so far.

My account was not only emptied of my money, they left me with a rather substantial overdraft

This hack was made at roughly 4am my time (England) I received an email from PayPal saying that they had restricted my account, as they had some rather suspicious behaviour 'from a 3rd' party.

I immediately cancelled my card on that account, rang the bank, had it cancelled there too.

I sent a support ticket straight away, so far, they have done this, the money is back in that account, but is 'pending' untill further investigation.

That isnt much help to me, my bank balance still shows minus £500 and them some

2 suspect payments were apparently 'authorised' by me, one for $1200, the other for $300.

Its still ongoing, I do what I can.

Personally, I feel mugged, and am very upset, I cried when I saw that money taken from my account

Its still gone.

My feelings at the moment, im very fearful, its wrecked my in-game play, I feel, well, not in a playful mood.

I wanted to post this, just to warn people, i'm not sure how you can protect your-self, if anything, if you have a card registered there, take it off.

Im just gutted

But, I have to tell you, it happened to me.

Happened to me once, but no money was successfully removed, thankfully. It was linked to a hack of my account on a related well known auction website.......
Have no idea how mine happened either, but I have no cards registered anywhere these days

Yeah, kinda hard lesson to learn, I feel rather drained after all this, just exhausted, I feel abused by an unknown enemy.

But yeah, we have to be more careful, btw, I havent even checked my Ebay account, something tells me it started from there

Yes I would not be at all surprised. Someone used my account to make about five million listings to do with WoW. Kind of ironic really. Well it is now, anyway, not at the time, of course

But it was cleared up, so have hope!

Totally feel like ive had the stuffing kicked out of me in truth.

This really hurts, no-one knows whats it like NOT to believe an email then check your bank balance and see it IS true.

Sorry to hear that DJ I know the lose your feeling right now and sure it is only money but it still hurts--The violation itself is what hurts the most. Reminds me of when my car was stolen--I was lost, I didn't know what to do, It had an alarm, it had a GPS recovery system yet someone still managed to swipe it. The feeling of being violated like that, especially after taking all the right percautions, was what hurt the most. At least that is what i thought until they recovered it a week and a half later. What they had done to it just broke me in two. Even though the insurance company paid well for it I just can't ever get over the fact that it actually happened in the first place. I feel for you hun I really do and I hope they manage to get things straightened out for you.
